what a waste of taxpayer money. we're going to do a study to determine whether or not renting of homes hurts the resort industry. my guess is this is a cover to try to crack down on people renting out their homes and not reporting the rental income. you really think frank moe cares about the resort industry? what do they plan to do if they determine that those renting their homes hurts the industry? tell people they can't rent their property? ridiculous. waste of time

Wow, now the state wants to regulate who can rent out their homes? Does Frank own a lakeside resort or what?

Now they won't even let you do what you want with your investment property. Nothing illegal. Why do you think resorts have been broken up over the past 10 years... The property taxes are killing them. They break up the resort, make a huge profit, and walk away laughing all the way to the bank.

It's not individual homeowners killing the resorts...just a good chance to cash out!

Just take the restriction off what resorts can charge. Let the free enterprise system work. They will price themselves out of business. Then they will scream for Tax Payer Aid.

I think we should propose another bill to study if the sale of ice cream at Cub foods is hurting Dairy Queen.

It's not people who rent out their lakefront homes who are hurting the state's resort industry.

The government is hurting both.

What is hurting the long term resort industry in Minnesota is that the value of lake property is so high that resort owners don't want to work for their money they just want to sell off their land in pieces to private owners. The state should allow some tax breaks to offset the crazy land prices around lakes so that family owned resorts can stay in the family and charge reasonable prices.

So Democratic leader Frank Moe wants to spend out tax dollars on something " knows it is happening but wants to know the extent of the phenomenon and whether there are any laws being broken". How are you going to figure out if your hunch is right or not Frank? Tie up legislators time who could be working on something beneficial to the State? I will help you out Franky: Call your local law enforcement agency to see if a law is being broken since you can't figure out how to read a law book. Then if there is a law being broken, kindly ask them to enforce it. You won't have to spend tax payer's money on studies and consultants so you may not like this idea.

Another day at the capital and another freedom taken away. The democrats will stop at nothing to control everything. Start now. Tell your neighbors, unless you live in St. Paul or Mpls, it is time to revolt and get rid of the desparate dems in Nov.

the republicans are letting all the jobs go overseas and the dems are ripping up the constitution.

People can rent out their darn homes if they want to. What's the problem? Resorts might have to come up with more reasonable rates? or keep their places a little cleaner?

You elected these Democratic goofs!!$6.6 Billion dollar tax increases, removed the property tax deduction, property taxes based on income vs. home / propertly value,$36 million fund for accidents victims who already have auto insurance, medical insurance, long / short term disability. Time to take back our state people. And, isn't this how the market is supposed to work? Maybe the resorts could use some competition on service, quality and accommodations. HHhmmmm...
