I see more and more people with tattoos, many working in very public businesses. What are your thoughts on this.

It's become mainstream now, BUT people will still look at you differently, so be cautious what you choose and it's placement.

I know that some businesses won't hire you if you have tattoos that are visible when wearing pants and a short sleeve shirt. But I often go to other places, like Wal-mart, and see all kinds of tattoos in plain sight. Some aren't bad, but some are rather strange. I think the businesses need to have some kinds of rules at times. I recently visited a friend in the hospital and I think nearly every nurse that I saw that day had at least one tattoo showing.

How dumb does one have to be to get a neck or face ? Seriously, for the rest of your life people will always look at at you with a raised eyebrow! It doesn't look cool or hip, it looks retarded and shows your lack of intelligence. Guess it's fun for the rest of use, gives us something to point and laugh at.

Seriously, tattoos make ya look like a scumbag! Unless of course you have a tramp stamp......that's kind of cool.

I don't think it's a big deal ... it's not as offensive to me as people who wear too much perfume or cologne. Honestly if someone is caring for me in a hospital, or working with me on a loan, it's much more distracting if I can't stand the smell and I just want to run out of the room. Obviously they don't mind having people look at them with a raised eyebrow, I suppose that's part of the fun of having a tattoo. But they are not bothering my personal space, and as long as they are doing their job to my best expectations, why should I care?

I agree that tattoos are alot less of a personal space matter than someone with a smelly perfume! I really don't know why tattoos are big deal as long as they aren't on the face or front of the neck. I don't mind the ones on the back of the neck because you can always wear your hair longer or a collared shirt to cover it if you want. I do see alot of tattoos on younger people that I have to wonder if they will have the same meaning in 10 years. And never ever get someone's name unless they have died and will remain in your heart forever. I personally have actually asked to see someone's tattoo that was only partially visible under their shirt sleeve because it looked cool. The young man was glad to show off his ink and tell me the story behind it.

I didn't get a tattoo until I was in my 30s and I don't regret it. Contrary to what lol commented, I'm a 40 something professional and do not look like a scumbag in any way.

I was 30 when I got my first tattoo. I'm a business owner, educated, and respected in my community. I now have 4 tattoo, but you'd never know it if I were to be wearing jeans and a tee shirt, or even a tank top. Mine all have very special meaning and were planned for months, not picked the day I showed up at a tattoo parlor. Not everyone with a tattoo is or looks like a scumbag! Heck, scumbags drive cars and wear clothes too, so does that make me or anyone else who drives a car or wear clothes a scumbag?

What tattoos does everyone have? I have my 3 kid's birth certificate foot prints done in their birthstone colors with their names and birth dates. They are on my back so I can cover them if I want or wear a racer back t shirt and show them off if I want.

I don't have any, however I have always kind of wanted one in the crook of my arm ... I'm just not artistic enough to decide on the design.

There is no safe tattoo, especially if you put a name with it. Oh, I guess MOM would be okay. I worry about getting older, wrinkling, losing and gaining weight. I heard about a guy who had a heart on his lower arm and wanted his name Bob and his wifes' name Flo put in the center of the heart. The only trouble he had was that when all was done and final, the tattoo artist (none too bright or good at spelling) said to the man receiving the arm tattoo,"you spell BOB with two O's don't you"? My body already has too many bruises and varicose and spider veins that look like bad tattoos. Believe me they are not pretty.

So you are saying that everyone with their kids names or birth dates, etc are from the trailer park? I'll have you know I have my 3 kids names and birth dates tatooed on my back as well and I live in a very nice home, one that is now paid for in full and probably cost more than you'll make in 10 years! Oh and I don't normally wear racer back shirts, but I sure as heck could and would if I wanted my tats shown off at any given point!

Sure there is - your kid's names are always a good bet! They will always be your kids. I also have a small zodiac sign on my ankle, which will also never change. And always, ALWAYS go to a reputable tattoo artist and look at the tat before they start working.

Big deal that your cardboard boxes are paid for. Go brush your tooth.

Wow, you are really small minded and shallow. I'm not now, nor have I ever been on welfare of any kind. I planned all 3 kids, all with my husband, and we live in a very nice 5 bedroom home. We work good jobs that we have both been at for several years. Tattoos don't mean someone is any kind of low life or on assistance. It's an expression of one's self.

LOL, Ferrell ... I think you meant to call yourself feral ... you certainly have all the characteristics of a feral cat ... Hissing and growling and in general not friendly to humans.

My girlfriend has about 10 tats but they are tasteful and most aren't visible if she isn't wearing shorts or a racer back top. She's smart, college educated and very beautiful.

I think it's funny, all you simple minded people.I have numerous tattoos, I own my own companyand many of my employees have tattoos they are a way of expressing ourselves (tattoo lovers) just like some people play golf, some people draw well we get tattoos. That doesn't make any of us any less of a human being and it doesn't mean we are on government assistance. While in twitty your are the one getting food stamps and living in low income housing and bashing on everyone else on a forum because you're unhappy with your life, fuck dude go have sex with your wife, better yet get a job yourself
