1 I live in Auburn, and I'm very fond of both Brownville and Peru. You seem to have forgotten that Peru lost its elementary school because a bond issue didn't pass, and Auburn voters had a lot to do with it. They're still hurting from that. I'll continue to patronize both communities. |

1 I would fully support a boycott of both towns. These people need to feel the heat. They refused to support education even though their own kids attend our schools. I will pull my financial support from Brownville theater, the concerts, and the historical society. I would urge other business to do the same. |

I don't think anyone hates Peru or Brownville, but it is some of the occupants of those towns that can't adjust to the past happenings with the school closing etc... They need to let it go and think about the future which does include students from both areas. Parents more than students are the problem with any function whether it be sports, music or any other issue. Sometimes I think the adults are really the children of the corn or the river.

2 Freemason are you drinking again? What planet are you from, they lost their elementary school at their own hands. It was the towns fault. The enrollment dropped significantly the town of Peru made no effort to try to clean it up or bring people to town. The City of Peru did absolutely nothing to help themselves. A clear message needs to be send to Peru and Brownville that we do believe in education if they don't then we will not support them. |

1 You are a trader! Grow a set of balls and stand up for the kids and their education. It is past time to show both towns we are tired of their little tantrums. I would completely support a boycott. |

The people need to send a message Sharon R, and you are right on! I hope there are many to follow... I don't frequent either Village as there isn't much there, but hopefully the masses can kick em in the butt!

Come on Auburn lets really do this boycott thing. There is no reason why we as a town should take this crap. They are hurting our kids and that is not acceptable. I hope not one single person from Auburn goes to the Brownville flea market or to that sorry event called Old Man River days geezz what a waste of time. I hope Cotty's in Peru never sees another Auburn person walk through there doors. Close it down Danny boy you are messing with my kids education now. I say kick them were it hursts in their wallets. COME ON AUBURN BOYCOTT PERU AND BROWNVILLE. |
|
Thanks Sharon ..........I will also drop all my support for Brownville events. Brownville really really blew it. I hope they hear us. |

1 Boycotting Peru and Brownville is a ridiculous notion. Rather than creating a division that will only widen the gap of understanding, you should be reaching out to citizens of Peru and Brownville, fostering dialogue and a focus on the issues. And, frankly, it doesn't sound like the vote in the Auburn wards was unanimous. Actually, you all sound like the spoiled kid who took his ball and went home. Should the Nebraska Legislature ever renew talks about moving Peru State College, I wonder if your boycott would remain in place? I am an outsider and I have no investment in the school issue; however, I was educated in Auburn and it WAS disappointing to see #2 and #3 defeated. Still, it doesn't do any good to build a wall within the district that only serves to magnify the differences. |

What a great new club for the people of Auburn to have.
I hope you people boycott Peru State College - show those people in Peru you mean business. Now not only will your taxes go up but your kids can get a great education at a school that deserves such fine up standing citizens. I am sure you won't even notice the difference in the cost of the tution at your childs new college. I always thought the reason for a vote on anything was for the people who voted could voice their opinion. I guess that doesn't work when you are from Nemaha County does it. It is Auburns way or the Highway. I don't think all those bad feeling you keep bitching about have nothing to do with it. The families of Auburn seem to think everything they WANT is owed them. Here is a better idea - Make Auburn its own little country. Keep everyone who isn't from Auburn out. The people from Brownville and Peru can go somewhere else to buy whatever it is they need. Boycott Brownville and Peru because Auburn doesn't need either one of those towns to make it do they! By the looks of Auburn now it won't take long for the area to finish drying up and blow away. You people make me sick - you can even get along with your neighbors. You get on this site and say whatever you want about who ever you want. I hope the people of Peru and Brownville read everything you write on here. I am sure you can look them in the eye and tell them this bullshit face to face can't you! |

While the school bonds were all a great idea and its too bad they didn't pass, I think a boycott is also a shame. While of course there are much bitter feelings involved in the closing of the Peru school and in the sale of the sheridan building the point is that each town sends their kids to these schools and that is where the importance really lies.
I think the most important part of the bond passed and while the other things would have been nice they weren't quite as crucial. I hope in the future something can work out. Until then it won't do any good to pull all support of the other towns within the county. At this time Auburn needs the support from these other communities. Auburn businesses need support from other communities. If you expect to be able to compete with Wal-Mart or the new Walgreens in Nebraska City Auburn should probably keep in support of Peru and Brownville. I don't really even want to get started talking about Peru State College. Crazy as it is still being in Peru, its there and it offers a multitude of jobs in the area and brings in tons of students through the year. While they may not be BIG money...every bit counts. I just hope we can get past this. It stinks, but it won't do anyone any good if we let it seperate us further. |
