Maine lake has earliest ice-out date on record

There are 6 comments on the Lowell Sun story from Mar 23, 2010, titled Maine lake has earliest ice-out date on record. In it, Lowell Sun reports that:

A Maine lake has been declared ice-free earlier in the season than any other year in 136 years of record-keeping. Officials with the Auburn Water District declared Lake Auburn "ice-out" on Monday, meaning the lake is virtually clear of ice.

Reminds me of 1998. I can remember crossing the Merrimack on the School st. Mammoth rd. bridge in February and not seeing any ice on the river stretching back into Chelmsford. I knew then that it was going to be exceptionally dry that year.

And it was. That was the year that Chelmsford tied in to the City (Lowell) water supply for the first time ever. Because wells were drying up and rivers where running low all across Middlesex county that summer.

My advice to you is to study up on how to safely store water for emergency use. Some plastic containers leach chemicals into the water over long periods of storage. And if any of your towns want to debate spraying for mosquito control, suggest the coming dry spell that will make spraying unnecessary.

Wonder what yea' old farmers almanac has in it's predictions.

Ahhhhhhh, run for your lives, the polar caps are next! Global warming... ahhhhhhhhhhh! Help! SOS! Build an ark! I always wondered what would happen to the tree huggers after the internet explosion reduced the paper demand a million times over.

Though shalt include Solar paneling upon thy ark. So that thy Sun does not mercilessly look down upon they ark and heat it's interiors to extreme. Rather, thy Sun shall be the friend and be host to amazing powers.

Thou shalt also cease to bleat about global cooling every time it snows. Verily, the priests of Climate have long predicted that a heating of the Earth will beget more snow.
