Today's paper is not a good day for Fitchburg!

How are the good people of the City going to be safe with so much crime and not enough cops.

I've had enough, even if I lose money I'm moving, enough is enough.

The incompetent Supreme Court passes its irresponsible ruling on the obsolete 2nd Amentment, and then this happens! Hate to say I told you so!

I agree that the decision opened a Pandora's Box, but the 2nd Amendment likely had no bearing on the criminal that took the shots at Parkhill Park. Regardless of laws (and amendments) the lawless will obtain and use guns to commit crimes. My kids used to play at Parkhill until today.

It is sad that kid's now must fear going out to play. Like the 7 year old in Boston last night. One minute playing with friends and the next getting struck by a stray bullet in what appears to be a gang crossfire. The 7 year old's life has changed forever now, and I hope the individuals responsible will face the true wrath of what they did.

Unfortunately these type of crimes are on the rise, just watch the news and see, Boston, Brockton, and other Cities on the news. The bigger problem is not enough Police. Look at Boston, they can't even fill the Police Academy with qualified applicants. Who in the world would want to be a cop in this day and age. Between budget cuts, unfounded law suits against Police, increased work, no respect from a lot of people, Defense lawyers, well you get the point. Instead of people complaining join the Police force and see what really goes on. Then you can complain all you want. People have no idea what goes on, unless you experience it for yourself. Try looking at blood, body parts, negativity day in and day out, worry about getting HIV or TB from people you have to deal with, no time to put gloves on at times. Getting cockroaches in your clothing and bringing them home with you. Oh yeah, what stress you put your family through when you get hurt, and they get a call from the hospital. Even worse the poor family who has to deal with a loved one getting murdered on the job.

I just don't understand what in the world is happening these days...my children play (or should I say played) at Parkhill every day. That will no longer happen. Its pretty sad when you can't even enjoy an afternoon at the park with your children. Find these clowns and get them off our streets and away from these children!!

I thought it was amusing that the woman said she was upset that the gun was fired in a park where there are children. How about being upset that the gun was fired AT ALL?

"Please Mr. Gangster, shoot your guns down the street."

Parkhill hasn't been safe for a long time - everytime I drive by I am surprised by the amount of children there. There is no way I would want my kids to be there unattended.

Speaking of that - there were children as young as 6 or 7 years old riding the streets on little razor scooters at 10:00 last night. Is it just me or do all parents let their young kids roam the streets at night???

You are an ignorant bufoon blaming the supreme courts ruling for this. I feel confident saying that those involved in the shooting probably didnt have licenses for the guns they posessed. Keep blaming the second amendment and the law abiding for the criminal scum who break the law out there. It has served MA well up until now.

It is not you, unfortunately SOME "parents" see their kids as a paycheck form the state and nothing more.

Yeah, better to kill off all gun laws. That way, everyone INCLUDING the scum can have guns too. That way we can put the FPD into mothballs, save another 2-3 million for the city?!?

After all...wasn't it the NRA saying...that with gun control...only the scum would have guns? Without any laws...it would seem to me that the scum would have guns too. Nothing to stop them, except folks like you??

But then every gun owner is a law abiding citizen like you? LOL!

With all the people there was no mention of any witness coming forward to admit to "seeing" the shooter...not just hearing that shots were fired

Sadly, the victim probably knows who the people are that shot him but just like all the other shooting the police do all this work and the victim doesn't cooperate. Then there will be retaliation and another shooting. It never ends, but Fitchburg can afford to lay off police. Thank you Wong and councilors.

You freakin' moron, that has nothing to do with it. Dirtbags will have guns and use them, regardless of what laws are on the books. And if you had READ anything about the supreme court decision, it doesn't repeal the local licensing provisions. What it says is that a qualified applicant can't be denied a permit. The "bad guys" don't go thru any permitting process anyway.

Hey Boulder Head, they aren't repealing any gun laws, they are saying that someone qualified to own one can't be denied a permit. The quote also said "outlaw guns and only outlaws will have guns". If you look around this socialist state that holds true. Do you think for a minute that the shooters at Parkhill had a license to carry ?

Fitchburg has been a crime filled city for YEARS. That park (which I am sure that the police are aware of this) has been the hangout and dealing spot for gang members and dealers for many, many years. The "parents" that live in that area/city KNOW this, yet they STILL let their kids play there ALONE, as well as roam the streets ALONE day and night. I see young kids hanging out with older thugs... learning the "ropes"... teaching the "next generation of thugs" how things are done. There are shootings that never even make it to the papers. Why? Because people don't report it. WHY? Because it's a daily thing in that city. People are numb to it. And for those that do report it, good. At least ONE more thug will be off the street, which means perhaps one more child will have a brighter future coming out of Fitchburg. Don't get me wrong, Fitchburg has some great people, but not as many as before. Fitchburg used to be a beautiful, vibrant and safe city, believe it or not. I guess all we can do, is hope for the old days to come back around, and that the youth of Fitchburg will stop and realize life's too short to waste it on gangs, violence and drugs.
