California wildfires strain state's resources

A wildfire threatening hundreds of homes in Southern California spread slowly through scenic canyonlands Saturday, straining resources as crews struggled to contain hundreds of other blazes around the state.

Why would a person living in the City of San Francisco paid more so that people in the woods will have improved fire protection?

Because when there is a fire in the "woods" fire fighters and their equipment from areas such as the City of San Francisco get sent to the fires. Thus putting a strain on your local fire department. Educate yourself and take a look into the California OES (Governors Office of Emergency Services) system and maybe you will come to a better understanding.
