Based on the picture, it looks like they ran out of lane and didn't merge...

Certainly hope and pray they are ok. If it's that merge lane, it's a very bad spot for people racing in it to get ahead of the traffic.

I understand that it is a "thing" around here. But, though they can be used in street names, for 29 north and south are directions not locations.

Having been here over 20yrs I do recognize that "29 north" is a location reference to 29 on the north side of C'ville and "29 south" to the roadway on the south side.

But it would be nice if the local culture was at least smart enough to also include reference to direction.

So....if I should expect delays on "29 North" shall I expect them on "29 North" in the SOUTHbound lanes? Or should I expect them on "29 North" in the NORTHbound lanes?

Apparantly the news reporter doesn't know north from south. I saw this wreck on my lunch break and it was in the southbound lanes..going into Charlottesville is south, coming out of Charlottesville is north...

Yes. That's direction. But around here people use "north" and "south" in conjunction with "29" to give location relative to C'ville.

That's what it looks like to me as well... not sure why people are disagreeing with you. There's a lane that ends on the left hand side there. It is easy for people to miss if they aren't paying close attention.

You're wrong. There is absolutely a lane that ends on the left there. You have to merge or you get run off the road...

As badly as the shoulder is graded, if you get a wheel off, the slope will pull your car right down into those trees, and trees do not belong in spot where cars can hit them.

Try that new invention called the guard rail (spend less money on unnessary things).

Can't believe all this talk about whether its South or North-! The important issue is that someone has lost their life!

My thoughts and prayers go out to these families at a very difficult time.

They die young, they die old on 29. This stretch of asphalt is an equal opportunity

Here's the key sentence...

The 88 year old female driver.

Legislation needs to be done to stop these old people from driving, set a specific age and end it.
