What do we have to do to get a Wal-mart in this town????? I'm so tired of having to drive an 1/2 hour to get to one. I can a prescription for 4.00 at wal-mart, and the same prescription cost 16.00 dollars at pamida, and 21.00 dollars at sav-more. I'm also tired of paying outrages price's at our hardware stores and the grocery store, just to make the fatcat's of this town even richer.
Our downtown is a ghost town. If the concern is wal-mart would drive out the small buisnesses, guess what, it has already happened without walmart being here. Tuscola is located beside a major interstate averaging 27,000 cars traveling throug our town daily. What incentives does Tuscola offer these travelers to stop in Tuscola and spend money? Wal-mart would attract other businesses to our area and bring citizens from the rural areas to Tuscola instead of going to Champaign or Matton
Wal-mart would bring jobs, much needed tax revenue, and I wouldn't have to spend my money in Chamapaign or Mattoon, I would be spending my money here in Tuscola. I would rather spend my money in my home town, not Champaign or Mattoon. Having a wal-mart in Tuscola in my option is a plus for Tuscola. The taxes made from Wal-mart would help our roads, schools, and build entertainment facilties for our children. What do we need to do to get a wal-mart built in Tuscola?

Thankfully, Bob does not represent the citizens of Tuscola. I know this because we are more intelligent then to post such a juvenile comment. Grow up Bob.

They do suck. Sure some of their stuff is cheap but they are not the only place to shop. I've seen stuff cheaper at the IGA or Dollar General store than Wa-Mart.

The dollar general has reject merchandise from big lots, big lots has reject merchandise from walmart. Merchandise that does not sell. The average person shops at wal-mart for the convience of every thing they need. Wal-mart will also price match any competiors prices. Does IGA or dollar store do that? I am looking for quality merchandise that Pamida or the dollar store does not sell. Nothing against Pamida, they have great sells, but going out of town to shop will be the demise of Pamida also. Just look at their parking lot, a hand full of cars..... When I shop at wal-mart, I leave with allot more bags that I would at IGA....

again a wal-mart would put many small businesses out of business in Tuscola. I'd say just drive to Savoy

Goldenfan - are you the one who is working on getting signatures from those who would like to see a Wal Mart in Tuscola? If so, maybe you should consider to expand your signature search to all of Douglas County. I know of families in Camargo and Villa Grove who would love the convenience of a Wal Mart in Tuscola. Just a thought...

I was wondering if anyone knew when and where they are getting signatures for those in favor of a Walmart. I live in Tuscola, and I and several others would like to sign. Thanks!

everyone on here who complains that we need a wal-mart, do you not realize how much they screw with a town's economy. You want to run every small business out of town. You say it will bring in more jobs, but what about all those small business that have to close and those employees lose there jobs. Does anyone here support the USA. I can tell you that Wal-mart doesn't. Almost every product is from China or some other forign company. Say taxes from wal-mart would be used to improve the town. How about just buying in town anyway. Many times the prices are not really that great compared to Tuscola shops (and that doesn't include the gas you waste to get there and come back). I could go on and on about how they treat employess. I have a friend who works for them and hates it, but like everyone he has to pay the bills. I know I will probably won't change anyone's opinion, but I just thought I might bring up some valid points. Hopefully it will get some people to think. I live and work in Tuscola and have all my life. I buy as much as I can in Tuscola. Many of the places I shop in Tuscola are very helpful and friendly to help me find or get a new product in if I ask. That shows me they care. One final thought. I don't make a lot, but I perfer to support local economy and maybe help my friends and nieghbors keep jobs in a bad economy.

P.S. Wal-Mart will never come to town. I have heard from a few people that I know who work for Wal-Mart. We are too small of a town and they have enough located all around us.

To he person that said people in Camargo would love to have a Walmart in Tuscola: You are full of shit! I was born, raised, and currently live in Camargo and I speak on behalf of the entire town when I say "Hell NO" to Wal-Mart.

Do you people really think the owners of IGA and Pamida are raking in cash? Some of you pro-Wal-Mart people are absolutely hilarious. You have no basic understanding of the financial importance of having locally-owned businesses. You are probably the same ignorant bastards driving your SUV 90 MPH on the interstate.

Shop at Wal-Mart and save your $4 on groceries, but know that you are the contributing to the demise of the American economy.

I sorry that some kind of person would read that, out of what I said, but I always pay for my items, why else would I want to get the most for my money, that is what I meant about walking out with more bags at Wal-mart, than these other high price stores here in town. The acuser is always the abuser! Is what I have always been told.

I think that you should take a class in government economics and realize what Wal-Mart's do to the economy of a small town and while you are at it take a class on how to use spell check and proof read your letters. I just found this forum or I would have responded sooner. I have worked at the local stores and have checked prices on a lot of items and found that Wal-mart and all your big box stores have good prices on the items that the average public shops for. If you check the prices on majority of the other items they are significantly higher then your local stores. I recommend you take your receipt from Wal-Mart if you buy more than your milk, bread, eggs... etc. and take it to the local grocery store and compare prices. You will understand it is not advantageous to drive to Champaign to do your shopping and hurt your local economy.

I have also checked prices and compared prices at the local stores. When you can get your medicine at wal-mart for 4.00 and here in town the exact same medicine is 15.00 dollars or higher. That is a big difference. But not just medicine, alot of other things too. When someone is on a limited income, it means alot to get the most for your money. Which there is alot of older people here in town that is on a limited income. Our local Dollar store is not local owned, which is a good thing, but just to show you, I was making a certain reciepe that called for rotel tomatoes that i bought at the dollar store for 1.00, of course they didn't have all that i needed, so i had to go to our local grocery store to get a few more things, the exact can of rotel tomatoes there, was on sale for 1.37 and that was on sale. Does that tell you anything. So I also recommend you to take receipt from Wal-Mart and check it with your local stores here in town, just so you can see where you can get the most for your money!!!!!

An Outlet Mall came to town a few years ago. Swell... Just what rural Central Illinois needed. Did we get a Farm & Fleet or Rural King? No, those who think they know what's best for a farm community, the local public,(and their wallets), thought we needed an outlet mall.
What small businesses are we trying to save by not having WalMart come in anyway? The same businesses that have to jack their prices up 3oo to 400% already just to make ends meet because folks have already taken their money elsewhere?
It's not Walmart's fault that small businesses fail, it's ours, because we demand the most from our buck, and we get it at Walmart.

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Cancer

Discussions and meetings go really well today because you're finding it easy to put your thoughts into words. You'll also show that you respect other people's viewpoints even if they don't coincide with your own. It's a good day for making domestic plans, and some of these will be quite ambitious without being unrealistic or far-fetched.
