Tuscola Bullies
“No, that has not been identified by the contacts that have been made at the middle school office, but it's an issue that a lot of kids need help dealing with”
Parents were fighting back tears Monday night as they shared stories of their children coming home from school with black eyes. via IllinoisHomepage.net

My son too is being bullied. When I find out who they are it will not be tolerated! Had I had known this town was so backwoods hatemongers I wouldn't have bought property here. I will let it be known to others with kids. Doesn't seem law enforcement is too committed to the cause either. How sad for society.

I am not condoning bullying in schools. I was not a bully - but i was also never bullied.
Please, as a parent, try to realize that when you make a big deal because little peter came home with a bruise -that you're only making the problem worse by going to the school about it. Kids always learn things the hard way - because they won't listen to the voice of experience. But parents seem to be the same way. Teach your son/daughter to stand up to bullies, don't stand up for them, further labeling them a victim for other people to pick on them |

I have the mama/papa bear instinct too...to fight and hurt anyone that hurts my "baby". Do some research online or at the library on ways to handle bullies.
I am not sure if going to the school is the best. But also, it may be your child's only option. Every situation is different. Just get all the facts and look at it from several angles before acting. In the same note: Do something! Even if it is all on your end: extreme like transferring schools or homeschooling or just finding someone for your child to talk to about it like a counselor or pastor. I am sorry that your child is hurting. It is great to hear of a parent who actually knows what is going on in his/her child's life. |

1 Do research online? You are the liberal poster child. That crap never got anyone anywhere except made fun of. You tell your kid to never hit anyone unless in self defense. If a bully picks on you - knock his dick off and he wont pick on you anymore. Quit raising a generation of pussies you F*cking liberals, we're tired of it. |

AMEN, I have raised 5 kids, all were taught to defend themselves. If they started a fight they would have to deal with me. If someone started a fight with them, they better finish it. All have had to walk away from a bullie at some point, sometimes several times, telling teachers and me each time. And then one too many times and my kid put a stop to it, it was the end of that. The bullie would respect them after, and no one else ever picked on them again. And yes, they still grow up to be respected, productive, loving individuals. |

First of all, your language is completely inappropriate.
Secondly, I think that your advice is not well thought out. If a person is seeking anonymous advice online do you think that they are the type of person to pick a fight? Bullying is a serious issue. It can lead to suicide or school shootings. That is extreme but does the phrase, "I never thought it could happen here." sound familiar? Please accept if not be aware that everyone handles things differently. You had a right to post your advice to this person. Just as I did. |

I too went to school in Tuscola. It is a sad commentary that so many of us had bad experiences there. Treating others bady was fostered there unless you had a certain name or lots of money. It was terrible. When I was not getting picked on, I saw others being humiliated and, sometimes, not only did school staff ignore it, they took part in it. It is pretty bad when the school system has to start 'sensitivity training' because some people in Tuscola are just downright nasty. Now, a lot of the people who were popular when I graduated are total losers as adults, and most of the 'misfits' are doing well personally and financially. People in surrounding towns and cities laugh at Tuscola's attitude because it is basically just a small town with a mall - big deal.

Isn't it amazing when someone post a subject and there appears to be a problem? I have a 11,15 & 17 year old in the Tuscola school system. All three are questioned on a regular basis how the "No bully policy" is working in the school. All three of my "by no means popular" kids have said it rarely exist and when it happens the students are encouraged to seek a teacher/parent to root out the bullies. I am not saying that it doesn't happen, but some of you make Tuscola out to be a terrible school to attend.
Its a great school system. If you feel that it is not, then seek out the School Board and make your concerns to them instead of on this board. |
