This accident is a sad remainder of the risk we take in our sports. This young was doing something he enjoyed. He led a fine example of taking that extra step to be safe with the extra safety gear, and his family should be applauded for encouraging extra safety.
I ride at this park on a regular basis and do not see people wearing chest protectors, with limbs sticking out in the trails it stops, or helps prevent limbs from piercing your chest. I have not been able to find anymore information on the specifics of the accident. I am though concerned why any of our police agencies failed to respond. That seems as though that would be a morale issue more that "where the lines are drawn".
Due to this we may not know what happen to this young man. I would like to take his loss and turn it into more of a positive one.
Again, God Bless the family, loosing a child can be a great loss, been there.
