The people of erie, if they chose to, could not make a difference at the box office. He is also speaking as a boss who is trying to get work done. Did you want them to build a float and parade around town?
Well, I am not from Erie and I am offended by his statement. I have friends and acquaintences all around the world, and one person tells another, and they tell another and so on and so on and so on....
Get the point? And with email and You Tube, one stupid comment gets transmitted really FAST!

I agree with IRRITATE 100%. When I read Mr Ullman's comments, I was angry. You are right, people who witness movies being made are GREAT promoters for the film.
"We're not here for anyone else's entertainment. We're here to make a movie" How pompous is that statement?
He is filming in a state park, for free, for crying out loud. HE is invading Erie residents, not residents invading HIM and his film.
While Pennsylvanians are THRILLED that more and more movies are being made here, we don't appreciate this type of attitude.
Every movie set that I have visited, the crew have been more than happy to let you watch, directors and location managers included.
All you have to say is "no cameras allowed" and people are more than happy to oblige to not use "Flashbulbs" (he needs to get up to date on camera technology)
His attitude is REALLY bad press for the movie!!!
I totally agree with what you said, free publicity, free location why shut us out of our park. I drive there daily.

If the people of erie chose to protest it, the negative press still gets word out for the movie, so they wont have an impact there. If they dont go, big deal, small town, small theater, small numbers. Yes, a stupid comment can go on youtube, but it will only spread the name of the movie, regardless of how the town feels.

I would just get over it, its a free park, let them be and worry about something else.

You have to love the people of Erie. On the one hand, they are always crying about how great the town actually is and that everybody is mistaken about it.(And actually I agree with the Erie residents on that point.) But then when something "big" happens here, the same people bitch about some perceived snub and therefore want to hold it against whoever or whatever is coming to town. So there you have it Erie, go to PI and protest the fact that a director wants to shoot a movie without having a bunch of idiots standing around in the background like it is the Today show. That will teach them.

Are Erieites really thinking of protesting this movie. SMALL TOWN ERIE. If I owned my own business and I had a bunch of people standing around gawking, as my employees tried to work, I would call the police. That movie set is a BUSINESS people, act like you have some common sense. They are shutting people out of the park because you don't know how to shut up! You will be a distraction! A movie set is not a tourist site. Get over yourselves and leave these people alone.

I live in erie just a few min. away from presque isle and go there all the time... believe me, no one is protesting. No need to take a few comments posted on a blog to make insulting comments about the town people. Yeah, its a inconvenience when sections of the park are closed off, but you get over it because people are spending money and that is a cool thing. Besides, can't wait to see the movie!

I'm at the Presque Isle a lot of my free time riding my bike and spending several hour taling in nature and I never saw any part of the park closed... but it would be cool to watch them film a scene.

I lived in a small town where a movie was shot. The film crew was present for two weeks. After they left the town spent 90,000 repairing the damage created by the crew. We then found out that many cities and towns on the west and east coasts will not allow film crews because of the mess they leave behind. This was 5 years ago. Maybe things have changed- but I doubt it. My town signed a waiver to this regard - thinking it would be worth any trouble to have a movie shot there.

I met Viggo and some of his crew at the Sheraton where they were staying in Erie. He's a very nice man! Looks like he dropped a ton of weight for this role though. Guy Pearce was not with them when I met them, but the little boy that plays Viggo's son was there. Can't wait for this movie, to see familiar sites on the big screen.

who the heck cares about this movie or viggo mortensen. If I saw him walking the streets I probably wouldn't notice who he is (because newsflash people, he's not a HUGE star like you seem to believe for some reason), and the movie will probably be terrible. When an A list movie and star come to town, let me know.
