Councilman Thompson can not be trusted. He still has a lot of skeletons in the closet and tricks up his sleeves. Watching him closely, if he does not follow through then the world will know what a liar he is. No conditions for that vote. Conditions in Atlantic Beach politics is only a self-serving agenda 'I'm in control'. Retha Pierce is a lost cause anyway you slice it.

Once again, it appears that the Town of Atlantic Beach may be rescued from their demise by a quirk of fate. That is if Mr Williams can pull this rabbit out of his hat.

I was looking forward to a quick and quiet execution by the State of South Carolina.

HEY, City of NMB I suggest you get ALL the money UP FRONT for all services that the Town of Atlantic Beach wishes to purchase.
Does NMB agree

Why would North Myrtle Beach agree to this? If the town, Altantic Beach, fails, then NMB gets it all through annexation and cuts out the middleman. From a legal perspective what a nuisance. Everytime NMB Police make an arrest in AB would they have to go to AB's municipal court? This would mean NMB cops would have to know all the ordinances to two jurisdictions? Why bother, and why settle for only $250k, when you can have it all anyway, the property taxes and license fees as soon as ABs charter is surrendered or revoked?

Amen! Get a cashiers check or a money order IN ADVANCE--Absolutely NO credit what so ever.

If I owned property on the other side of the barricade in NMB, I would be at the next council meeting too, begging to leave the barricade in place. Roads go both ways and I would be worried about the AB thugs driving through my neighborhood to get back to thug central, AB.

Was the proposed sale property, with its fenced-in basketball court, outdoor grill and tether-ball pole, advertised for bids as surplus property? Was the property offered only to a handful of AB residents, property owners/supporters?
And exctly why is the connector between NMB's sections of Ocean Blvd. going to be via Second Avenue in AB, and not the oceanfront avenue? Has there been some backroom deal?
Has Arthur Elbert Jordan, Jr., or his heirs, approved selling a portion of the "spite strip" -- Tax Map Number 1560326079, Deed Book 2160, Page 481, recorded June 30, 1999 -- a narrow strip of privately owned land between AB and the Cresent Beach portion of NMB, running from Highway 17 to the oceanfront?
There are a lot of unanswered questions.

Good on all of them for trying to wrangle out of a stalemate. It's never easy to work things out, and I'm sure the pay sure isn't great, but it's entirely possible this Council and Mr. Williams may leave a fantastic legacy by choosing to go to the trouble of working through their differences.

And good on NMB, too, for understanding that what benefits AB ultimately benefits them, and being willing to lend a hand.

So what's Retha's issue now?
"Pierce said she remained opposed to both the land sale and outsourcing the police.

"Until we have a public hearing with all the stakeholders, all the people who will be affected, I will not make a decision on anything," Pierce said.

How damned stupid can you be Retha? The world (along with the supreme court)does not revolve around you. Go out and get a real job. YOU ARE THE PROBLEM, BE GONE.

I was hoping for epic failure on the part of AB. These hopes are only prolonging the final outcome. AB will fail due to lack of leadership.

I'm not really political, but it has been fun keeping up with AB over the last 2 years. Better than TV. They need to sell the book for revenue, if they can figure who has the book rights.

If a local group of residents will sue the town over the "possible illegal" sale of surplus property (without going through the required legal steps) the additional expense that the town spends on legal fees will be the end of AB. The pathetic financial status of a "town" (AND I USE THE TERM VERY LOOSELY)is embarrasing for ANY government. If this point in time is not the end of AB, it will certainly be here soon. A good lawsuit or legal challenge bu a soon to be former employeed will be the end.

Looks to me like NMB is going to be growing!

If NMB agrees to this it is stupider than AB. The best thing that can happen is for this sham of a town to die. Putting it on life support only prolongs the agony.

I dont know Mr. Williams, but if he is able to get this compromise in he deserves a medal. The people of this town should really appreciate all the time and effort this man is putting into getting their bills paid and getting them on a track that they can move forward with. Mr. Williams I again applaud you.

Why would they not vote to make the town a better place. They have run the town into the ground and this man is trying to help them. I don't understand their thinking. Obviously they don't know what they are doing.

They call this management by crisis. The morons that are supposed to run the AB government are ignorant and deal with day to day business as "emergencies." PLUS they don't have to legally advertise the business they intend to discuss in advance. If the residents don't know the items to be discussed they cannot attend the government meetings. Like I said in a previous post...a good lawsuit against the town for their activities will be the end of AB.

The North Myrtle Beach police department is a professional organization that knows how to enforce the law comprehensively. It's only a matter of time until NMBPD arrests the "wrong" person and the AB city council revokes the policing agreement. Atlantic Beach is a thug town... and the city council likes it that way.

You mean arrest ANOTHER AB person. The whole council except Mr Williams have "Been There / Done That"
