Student Killed: Another grandson, another fatal wreck

The grandson of a prominent Carteret County defense lawyer has been charged with DWI following a weekend crash near the coast that killed a 19-year-old college student.

If these kids belonged to any other family you could bet your last dollar that pathetic sentence George got would have been a lot longer. I feel the sorriest for the families of these young girls with promising futures who keep getting killed by these ridiculous boys. Do you know these boys? Do you even know the Wheatlys? How judgemental are you. I hope that George Wheatly does great things with his life. You sit around and judge people on hear say and what you read in the paper. You must be a very stupid person. What a way to live. George Wheatly has been sober for years. Just so you know John has chromes disease. He does not drink a lot. Also Rebecca Willis chose to get in the car with him. Did you ever think about that. I would be hesitant to give out information that does not apply to the said topic. If one lends a vehicle or uses a vehicle under the influence, the verdict is guilty under the applicable laws. Killing someone under the influence however, may reduce his time....not the crime.

so are you saying just because your last name is wheatly you shold get away with killing someone? after all John is responsiable who is ridding in his car since he was the driver.Does having chromes disease make him bullet proof? Or in this case prison proof! The Wheatlys are a wonderful family who has lived in carteret county for ever,but they know deep down in their hearts that John is guilty and desevers to pay for what he did. Maybe he will think the next time that this is not a game.Just because your from another state dosent mean you cant see between the lines.Just think how mrs.wills feels about the wheatlys.

It was not Johns car. I do not think John should get away with anything. It has not been proven that John was driving. What will be will be. It just amazes me that people think they know everything about a case. When all you know it what has been reported in the papers. I do not think this accident is a reflection on John's family. I do not know John well but I do know some of his other family members. They are great friends of mine. I don't think that it is fair to bring them in this.

My family has been there forever as well. However, this does not excuse the fact there was negligence and that is not an application to be found innocent. Crime....do the time....Money can not bring back the death(s) of anyone.

No one is saying that John should not go to prison. It has nothing to do with his family. However, he should be able to defend himself. You may agree or disagree with the outcome. At least give him a chance. YOU DO NOT KNOW ALL THE FACTS!!!

I understand that a very special person was taken away that day but, let it rest. Back and forth bickering is not going to bring her back. All things happen for a reason. Rebecca was an aquantance but John is a dear friend. He made a very bad decision "if" he was under the influence. She made a bad decision by riding with or letting him drive her car. All involved beside Debbie made BAD choices. I have no doubt that MY friend is going to serve time just like Eddie. If they are so beyond the law then why did eddie spend 3 years in jail? There was justice and I am sure that when all details are fine combed John will be held accounable for whatever he did or did not do. The wheatly's are a very fine family and should not be held accountable for the actions of other family members. PEOPLE make mistakes!!!
