The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and State Attorney Angela Corey were investigating a police-involved fatal shooting Monday afternoon near 18th and Laura Streets.

Witnesses say police were stopping traffic in the neighborhood and stopped a car belonging to a man they identified as Kiko Battles, age 24 or 25, on the street behind his grandmother's house.

Witnesses say Battles exited the car and was Tasered by police and then shot a number of times by two officers.

"The cops shot him down like a dog," Darnell Pollen said. He said he saw the shooting from about a block away. "If he didn't have a gun, they shouldn't have shot him."

A woman who neighbors said was Battles' sister was in the front yard of the house, yelling "they killed my brother! They killed Kiko!"

Police confirmed that officers were involved in the shooting but provided no details on the man or his condition.

It is the eighth police-involved shooting in 2009 and the fifth fatality.

"The cops shot him down like a dog,"

That is what you do with a dumb or defective dog, you put him down. The other guy was much smarter he lived and walked away, I guessing he knew the type of dog he was hanging around and decided he wanted to live, so he cooperated.

On a side note, I am so glad that the gun carrying thugs all over town are more concerned with how it looks to carry a gun and hold the gun, rather than how to actually use it. Sure keeps the Cops and the citizens much safer.

All who have posted comments on this site pertaining to the Battle shooting in Jacksonville on yesterday should know something of importance. You have judged someone that you have no idea who he was. I have been a Justice for almost 39 yrs and have never seen a city that allows its officers to be renegadges and do whatever they wanted; You know "do as I say and not as I do" mentality. How can you effectively and efficiently uphold the law when you feel you are above it. This is why we have laws inacted in this society. First, let me let you in on some info from credible and close sources, the officers involved in the shootings were the same officers involved in shootings earlier this year and back in 2005 and guess what they are still out there shooting people instead of protecting them.

Now the young man that was shot and killed on yesterday had just left his grandmother's home after speaking with her and on his way to the store with a friend of his. The officers stopped them as they were "walking, NOT DRIVING" down the road. Kiko was provoked by the officers because he was being harassed by these two red-neck renegade cops that should have been locked up back in 2005 for shooting and killing those 4 unarmed ppl. But their chief backed them up, just as they all do, put them on admin leave and their attorneys were able to get them off. The questions that should be asked here are: was the gun registered? who's prints were on the gun? why was he shot 7 times in the back after he had been tased and cuffed. See if you knew the entire story, not what the sheriff's chief, who didnt get on the scene until 6:17pm said; you would realize that Mr.Battle was in a nonoffensive position, faced down, cuffed, then shot 7xs in the back. Ask yourself is that justice for anybody? They already had him apprehended.

You're so full of shiz I don't know where to start. Just so we are clear, you allege that the bad guy was apprehended, hand cuffed, and then the officers put seven bullets in his back while standing over him. Is that correct?

If you really believe that I have a few bridges I'm looking to sell. I'll make you a really good deal.

The ballet of Kiko Battle

See Kiko walking down the street with friend, friend is the smart one.
See Kiko get pissed off, See friend stay calm.
See Kiko get tased , See Friend take a seat in the cool AC of the police car.

See Kiko laying on the Street with droll coming out of his month, See Friend (the smart one) seating in the cool AC of the police car.

See Kiko getting up with gun in hand, See Friend (the smart one) seating in the cool AC of the police car.

See Kiko body lying on the hot pavement with a couple of extra holes in him, See Friend (the smart one) seating in the cool AC of the police car.

See Kiko in a body Bag, See Friend (the smart one) seating at home sucking down a ice cold adult beverage.

If he had already been apprehended, how did he manage to run and jump a fence after being shot several times?

And if you truly are a judge, it's morons like yourself that put law abiding citizens in harms way by letting these thugs go free time and time again.

Finally, JSO does not shoot unarmed citizens. Sorry, it just doesn't happen. Every shooting is justified. Personally, I like to see more of these thugs getting shot by police. Just as long as they make sure to empty their clip into them because society doesn't deserve to be stuck with the medical bill.

1. What do you mean you have been a "justice" for 39 years. Please explain.

2. By the way, there is a Duval County ordinance as well as a state statute that basically says walking IN the street where sidewalks are provided is illegal.

3. TWO guys were walking in the street. One chose to obey the police and halted - the other did not. See the difference in the final outcome?

I want to know why these pos's that are laying dead have ALWAYS just come from their grandmothers house and was on the way to church / store etc etc IF that is the case how come the POS's feel the need to be carrying a gun, of course the fact that it is an ILLEGAL gun is a moot point to have the population and the other half are pretty glad that yet another tosspot is off the street........... guess which half of the population I am in.......

Daily Horoscope for March 22

Taurus

Control issues are likely as the Moon battles Jupiter and the Sun opposes Saturn today. People in authority are bound to be inflexible and demanding, so keep a low profile. A boss who is offering encouragement one moment could be letting the guillotine fly the next. You may have to fight for ideas you believe in, but this will be your challenge for some time to come as revolutionary Uranus and conservative Saturn do battle.
