We elect a congressman to represent our interests in Washington. In the few town meetings he held this summer he said conflicting stands on health care and abortion. I sent a letter to Mr Stupak asking him to vote as the vast majority of his constituents wanted. The majority(over 50%) of the citizens did not want this bill. The vast majority stated they were happy with thier present medical coverage (over 80%). Mr Stupak voted Saturday Nov 5 to support Speaker Pelosi radical bill and force feed a very unpopular bill to the public. We the voters better wake up and remove Rep's who disregard the wishes of those they are supossed to represent. Mr Stupak betrayed his constituents and fell in line with the ultra liberal agenda that is stealing our liberty. I intend to actively support canidates who will restore fiscal sanity and return our rights that the Federal government is stealing from us. The nutty bills before Congress include items like making it illegal to grow your own food or raise your own meat. This was introduced by Rep Dingel (D/MI). They can't take our guns so they introduce bills to have self destructing ammo. what good is a gun if the ammo spoils like milk after 6 months? We the voters better get informed and remove Mr Stupak and the rest of these people who will not respresent the wishes of their district. God help our children and grandchildren if we don't stop the socialist machine in Washington DC. If you have time to visit Topix and comment you can afford to research Mr Stupak's voting record as well as Senators Stabenow and Levin so you can see how we're getting screwed. Our country and our rights are under attack from our own government.

Another point, if you want health care reform to lower the cost of medical premiums, reform the tort laws. This can't be done by Congress now because 95% of the Congress are lawyers, and the largest lobby in Washington DC now is the Trial Lawyers Assoc. It would appear that Congress has no desire to limit their fellow lawyers awards. If you feel this is inncorrect, just ask your own doctor what they have to pay for mal-practice insurance. Greedy lawyers and outragous awards account for a large portion of our health care premimums. Having congress made up of attorneys reigning in The Trial Lawyers lobby seems to be a wishful dream.

I applogize for mis-typing Stupak in the header

The health care issue is but a symptom of the great political divide in this country. The democrats want to give it all away to a very few and the republicans want to keep it all for a very few. Each party focuses on a narrow interest and the rest of us, middle America, falls deep into the wide bottomless pit between. We have no choice but to vote for the devil on the left or the devil on the right. No matter, they won't be looking after our interests anyway. They support the principals of their parties, not their level-headed, socially and politically balanced constituents, most of whom lie somewhere in the middle.

If that is the case then it really dosen't matter if anyone votes at all. What you and I should be saying, I'm fed up with politics as usual, the hell with Dems and Republicans both. I'll be voting for Independents who will represent OUR interests and vote as thier constitutents want. A 3rd party system will shake up what needs to be shaken. 10 years ago this would have been foolish talk but look what the angry public has been doing lately. I see whites, blacks and Latino's standing up and saying "We're not going to accept this B.S. any longer. They are coming from all geographic locations, different income levels, all saying "ENOUGH" The Government will collapse upon it's self if something isn't done to stop it. Look at the debt that is being dumped on our children. Social Security, Medicare, Mediaid,Banks,Insurance Co. G.M. Chrysler and Post Office are prime examples of how the Feds are destroying our children's and Country's future. We can no longer say "the devil on the right or left" any longer.

I believe a few toes were dipped into the idea of a 3rd party system many years ago and it just didn't shake out. I don't think these people were seen as playing center field anyway...and some of them with only half a bag of marbles! Perhaps we weren't ready either. We were pretty content and that made for political apathy. We aren't content anymore are we?

It's time to replace our representatives in Congress!! The healthcare bill will raise costs and ration healthcare. If you don't buy insurance, you will go to jail!

Are there are teaparties going on up here?

Yes maybe he is a nice guy, BUT that doesn't make him good for Michigan or the country. This is how they get elected by being a "NICE GUY". They kiss babies and shake your hand and then stab you in the back. This is all though the political arena, nice guys on the campaign trail and then business as they see fit afterwords. We NEED people that speak for US and to H___ with the rest of the country. Whats good for New York, LA, Chicago, and Dallas is not always whats good for rural America and northern Michigan. He is supposed to be OUR voice in Washington.

GOOD, its time for us all to get involved. We need a CHANGE and we need it NOW. We can't afford this anymore, people are loosing jobs and homes and those who haven't lost them are paying a mortgage on them that is more than it is worth but yet you aren't seeing a reduction in taxes. We have a problem real close to home with jim and rose in Briley township, all they want is to tax us out of Atlanta. So we should start right here at home with our changes. America has the biggest homeless population ever and it gets bigger every week..........

I must respectfully disagree that Congressman Stupak is not representing his constituants. He is a Democrat, and he got elected by Democrats (mostly in the west end of the U.P. His voting record is Democrat 94% of the time, Present 5% of the time. That leaves 1% for those of us in Montmorency Co.

Maybe he is a nice guy. For that reason we should give him an early retirement next year and elect a conservative. Thanks to his amendment to buy some pro-life Democrats Nancy Pelosi got what she wanted. Harry Reid gets his turn next, and then we get their health care (total government take over) reform.

Elections do matter. That is why we have what we have. Too many people get into the single issue politics and lose sight of the total picture. Anyone who is upset with what Stupak did needs to make sure that one year from now we ALL go to the poles, and take as many people with us as possible, and take back our country!

You have your geography wrong. Stupak was not elected by western U.P. much to my surprise I was informed by my political savy son that Stupak is "hated" in the U.P. Stupak was elected by the northern branch of Ann Arbor,,, Traverse City.

That being said, your article is right on. As far as I'm concerned Conservative party is the answer. Both Democrats and Republicians have screwed the people EQUALLY.

Your imagination is working well today and ready to take off on flights of fancy.
