NATCHITOCHES – Two 3-year-olds who attend programs at Lakeview High School were taken to a hospital this week after drinking milk contaminated by two high school students, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Victor Jones Jr. reported. The children were taken to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, where they were observed and released, authorities said. Natchitoches sheriff’s deputies today arrested a 16-year-old and booked him into the Ware Juvenile Detention Center in Coushatta. On Tuesday, 17-year-old Chasman J. Evans was arrested and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center, Jones said. Evans, who lives on Greenville Street in Natchitoches, has been released on $4,000 bond, jail officials said. His mother, Valerie Evans, declined to comment when contact today by The Town Talk.
Both teens are charged with mingling harmful substances, Jones said in a press release.
No additional arrests are anticipated, Chief Investigator Travis Trammel said.
Evans and the juvenile are accused of mixing glass cleaner, liquid detergent and paint and putting the substance into two 8-ounce milk bottles. The bottles were then placed back in the lunchroom cooler. Detectives do not believe specific students were targeted. Lunchroom personnel were unaware of the bottles had been tampered with and passed them along to the 3-year-olds. No motive was given for the teens’ actions. The incident was reported Tuesday

Mingling harmful substances???!!!$4000.00 bond and released??!! Amazing. I guess the charges would have been upped if one of the kids had died. What about attempted murder??

How do students find these kinds of substances to mix together at school? Who was supervising these students?

My child attends LHS. She says that all of the students were regular students. Several of the basketball team were also involved. They had prior knowledge of the incident. They knew the milk was placed in the cooler and did nothing about it. They should be charged as well! One is a son of a well respected educator in the parish. All of these students should be kicked off of the basketball team!

This is awful. Our schools have gotten so bad, parents and teachers need to step up, we need to expect more from them and ourselves. Some students and parents have told me of some junior high students at one of the Natchitoches Parish Schools have had sex on the school bus and in the bathrooms.

If that was my 3 year old I would be hurting somebody. $4,000 should be $4,000,000.

Surprised that they still have the 3 year olds there with the alternative school being moved there a couple of years ago. My son went there and the side alternative is on is the same as where they have the three years old at. I was opposed to alternative being moved there just felt there would be more conflict and distractions for the high school students who are not alternative, not to mention moving the Jr high to the elementary where the hormone stricten kids are in with our little ones teaching them some stuff they don't need to be around.

This is crazy! I think that they should be more punishment on these boys. there should have been a lock on the lunch room doors! Kids should have no way to get in there. As for the boys that did this, they should be glad that was not my baby that drank the milk! I do agree that the alterative school should not be in there with the good kids and 3 year olds. The teacher in that dept. needs to be more careful.
Lakeview is a good school. I have a kid there now. The teachers and staff care about the students. I hope that the two little one are ok. My prayers are with them and there family.

my question is why are babies in school? 3 yr.olds need to be at home not in school. do you know there is a program at the annex in natchitoches for infants? thats right its from 0 to 18 months. there is no way i would put my child in that school. those small ones have no business around those older and expelled kids. what is wrong with our system allowing babies in school? why have kids if you dont want them and dont want to take care of them?

why is it stupid to wonder why babies are in school? i have worked for the school system in the past and know first hand what the annex is like. i promise you those kids are not where they need to be in that enviroment. do you not believe small kids are better off at home? mothers are signing infants only a few months old up for this program for no other reason than to be rid of them for the day. what other reason is there? these are not sp. ed. kids. these are regular kids no different than yours or mine. please if its stupid to see it this way tell me why im wrong.

It's called Right Start for 3 yrs olds. It's for kids that may need extra help in development skills. No worse than a daycare and they had a great teacher a few years back don't know about now but kids who don't talk much or some speach problems or learning problems, they are screened before they can get in. My son was in it because he would not talk to anyone and had problems with some letters pronouncing them. Plus he depended on mom for everything would not let others do anything for him. This helped alot he is an A honor student and had principals award for the year. He is also not as shy now because his speach has improved to where he is out of speach class and not affraid to talk to people because now they can understand him.

Oh and I don't think they should be there with alternative kids or high school kids. But I believe it to be a good program for some kids

as i stated before i have worked in the school system before. i understand about the kids that have some problems being in school a little early.
im talking about those kids that have no learning disabilities of any kind and are under 3. that program at the annex is for babies 0 to 18 months. were talking newborns here that have no learning disabilities. i think the money in our school system could be going to a better use for the kids that should be in school.they will be in school long enough without going all their young life.

Ever heard of two income households. I myself hated leaving my babies at daycare or the 3-year old program, but it had to be done. I had to work.

To which teacher are referring and in what department ? It is my understanding that it was in fact the 3 year old teacher who discovered that something was wrong with the milk. She is the one who called it to the attention of the proper authorities.

Those boys should have been forced to drink every ounce of the milk.

Actually, it was the cafeteria manager who first noticed the boys playing with the milk. If it had not been for her these boys would have gotten away with this altogether. she deserves special praise from her superiors and a raise. They stole the milk from the cafeteria by hiding in it in their jackets. Apparently went to the teachers room to mix it up. Then they returned it the next day. The teacher, I was told, left them unattended. This teacher, again according to heresay, has a history of doing this. So my question is, where is the supervision of her? In my opinion, the cafeteria manager is a hero!!!!!!!

Oh well I thought we were talking about the 3 year old at lakeview not the 0-18 months. They aren't there! Misunderstanding....
