Murder in Natchitoches

A boy was murdered at the Frog pond appartments 10/30/05. A man by the name of Shawn Shelton was posing as a producer for the Skinney Giraffe Publishing Co. This was the Company that shot the film The American Standards. Starring James Brolin. I wonder if Mister Brolin knows what kind of garbage this was? This Man was a Sargent for the Manhatten Police Dept at one time. The man had many serious problems. Being HIV positive was one of the big ones. Now why did These College appartments allow these 40 yr old men to stay there. And why wasnt background check ran? If they would have been they could have seen where he had been arrested many times... Forging perscription drugs. Impersonating a law officer. This man was not handled in the right way when this murder happened. He was turned away and allowed to go back to California. 2 weeks later he was caught in Calif and was arrested with a 18 yr old boy. 2 months later he got a 14 yr old child and is now in Las Vegas where he is going to Trail in April. Hes on a 2 million dollar bond there. But what about the child he killed right there in natch? This was took care by the CITY POLICE! and their fine investigators. It is now in the hands of the DA so lets see what happens.
This was not publisized at all.
It was not one time in the natch paper but it was in the Shreveport paper along with Alexandria.
The boy murdered was from Winnfield La.
Also Channel 12 David Begnaud has done news on this case along with several reporters from California and Nevada. Why wasnt it in your paper in natchitoches? Dont you think your town needs to be more careful about the movie people you let in your town? This could have happened to anyone.
And did it? I mean this man was handing out business cards saying come be in the movies! The American Standards! When you get there you get drugged and then what.. If you make it out alive. This is a real big problem! This was a problem when this man was allowed to leave.
Saying there was no signs of foul play but yet by noon the next day it was all in the papers and news there was signs of foul play and the body was being sent for a altopsy. When got back it was ruled HOMICIDE!!!

Didnt want to draw to much attention to the movies..as how they get money to the town.. I dont know.. But this is a very big deal! It has been on channel 12 several times. David Begnaud did the coverage. I beleive that family is going to sit in on the trial for Shawn Shelton in Nevada. Not for their son but someone elses. There was 2 after their son. They didnt die.. But if they have AIDS they will. Google Shawn Shelton (Natchitoches) This was handled by The City! Poor poor job! And you see.. other children was hurt because they didnt do their job! There is alot to this story!

Who knows why it wasnt told..... But it was kept very quite! It was several months before the DA got it! The mess I think was made by the city....
Witnesses have came forward so hopefully it will all be in the open soon.
This man was a treat to alot of people.... No telling who became his victim!

This is horrible. We all have kids that go to college there. I hope the DA puts it on this man. No we sure havent heard much of it but I ask around about it today and I did learn a little about it. It is a very sad situation! What this family has been through! I was told they wouldnt give up.

The thing here is that this man pays for what he has done.. That he doesnt hurt any other kids.
Now Las Vegas says it dont happen in there State! They are trying to punish him to the Highest .
But there was a kid murdered here in Natchitoches..
Look this up I can get my hands on more if you need it. The mother of this kid has worked night and day for 17 months on this case. She has been the one I heard that found all the information on the man and gave it to the Natch POlice. This is ashame. This man was a sargent of the Manhatten POlice Dept just a couple years prior to the murder.. He told them that.. They said they didnt know if this was so or not.. The family found it all on the internet. Now if their work would have been done.. His name could have been put in the system and all the counts would have come up against him and beleive me there is plenty.
But no he went on to harm other kids cause he was let go! Something is fishy here.

Unfortunately, I know this guy and I haven't heard from him in a couple years. Maybe around the time this kid was found dead. It doesn't seem like this was the kind of thing that he (Shawn) would ever do, but I think after his lawsuit with the LAPD (I was around during that time), he changed a lot. This is a whole new person and NOT the person I knew and trusted. I just found this out yesterday morning (April 4, 2007) about the kid in Vegas. Seems to me that he is on a downward spiral in his life. He was never into drugs, so I would think that the kid did drugs. Parents think their kids don't but they do. Celebrities do it all the time, so yes, there had to be drugs on set and I'm betting he OD himself and it seems like a homicide cause Shawn didn't call authorities when he found the kid dead. Shawn who was once a great asset to his department is now doing time for a long time. I have some empathy for him, but that's what he gets for going down a path he was totally against.

You really seem to know Shawn Shelton.
Well since you just found out about this the 4th of April, There is alot that you have missed apparently. I agree, From all that can be gathered, Shawn was a good cop and person at one time. But guessing when all the deep secrets came out he sort of went off the deep end.
There has been People hired for this case.
The case was declared a Homicide in jan. of 05. All the Tox reports came in and it all pointed to Homicide. The trial will tell it all. This case was in Oct of 05 and a few weeks later there was another case and then a couple months the kid in Nevada. I was told that there is definently a pattern here. What happen in the Case in La is that the Natch cops dropped the ball and Shawn was very smart from what I gather and he made it back to Calif. The boy didnt OD himself. This has been in the Media several times and I expect we will be seeing it again real soon. You know you just have to wonder what is going on in a persons mind to do these things. Especially someone like Shawn Shelton. That was not like this in the beginning. But you know you keep fooling with sin and you will get bit one day. I feel like this is what happened here. The main thing is , Someones child was murdered here. Others was taken advantage of and who knows what the out come of their lives will be.
All we can do is hope that Justice is done.

Actually in the last few days I've followed up on every news report and figured out a pattern from the last time I talked and emailed him to this point. It has been a few years. But I looked up a bunch of stuff and his jury trial is about to start. There hasn't been a dispo hearing yet, but from what I've gathered he's going to get life anyway. I believe in the innocent till proven guilty, but with all the evidence against him and the pattern within a years time, there is no doubt that he's troubled...mentally.
Unfortunatley, I was "with" him during the time he was sueing the LAPD (MBPD) and he didn't want me to be around with all the BS that the dept. was doing to him. He was being followed, they poisened his dog "Joey", and some other stuff. So I'm glad he did, but I had moved on and that's when I think things changed. I guess he thought I was going to wait till everything would blow over and I didn't. Anyhow, I kept in touch with him, here and there and the last time I talked to him, he mentioned the movie and the last email he was looking to move, possibly Idaho. I was looking to move there as well, but I didn't. But that was the last I heard from him.
Also, he was always against drugs and would tell me to stay away from it and not drink and drive. I was 23 at the time. He gave me a ton of good advice and I had a lot of respect for him. He honestly looked out for my well being and he cared about what I was doing. He wanted me to quit my former job because it was a hostile environment and even gave me the number to his lawyer (who didn't want to take on my case). Anyway, the point is when I new him, he had a lot going and I noticed some change but nothing like this. OH, he was on medical leave for carpal tunnel surgery for trigger finger. Impersonating an officer is a serious crime too. He has too much stuff on him and I'm sure he'll pay the consequences. It just sucks to see someone that had everything going for him, loose control and fall off the deep end. For myself, I have too many positive memories and fondness for him and I really wish I hadn't see any of the stories. I hate to remember the greatest person I've ever met, be one of the hatest person and doing crimes I'm totally against.

Well how about this, I have been hunting a forum on this for months. Huffs was really good but I guess they took it off or something. Theres alot of people out here that I am sure has some answers to this case. I know several came forward on the Huffs Crime blog. This has been a night mare to these families. Shawn Shelton has some serious problems. Now what happen I am like the rest of you... That will have to be determined later. I am just thankful that This case is moving. It has taken a little while but if you arent careful the Man will try and get out of it. I hear Nevada is being careful on their part. He is to go to Court on June 1 2007 if all goes as planned. Has anyone heard if the 3 other men has made statements yet? I would think Hynt Scarritt would be a good point of intrest. They claim he was a ating coach but he is the one that actually found the boy. That story is a little off sounding but you never know. I have worked on this for a while. I know these parents arent going to give up. And I dont blame them. I have heard the story many times on how the Police Dept mistreated Shawn. And you know I am sorry for that but It doesnt give anyone the right to do the things that he has done. We face problems everyday but this was a little to the extremes.
Well good to see this going and good to see people that knew him paticipate. Yes Justice is what is wanted here!

When you said that you talked to Shawn the last time he mentioned the movie, Did he say that he was a Producer for the movie? So when was he going to move to Idaho?

Walter, thanks for some extra info. I'm trying to investigate from my end. I just have to be careful how I go about it with my job. Anyhow, Yes he did tell me that he was going partners with his friend Kebber. I'm interested on information on this case. I can't seem to find anything except from Dailybreeze.com . This case I would like to know more about. Nevada slapped him with $2,018,000.00 bail. He'll never get out of that. I thought it was funny that his attorney tried to get it reduced to a million. I'm thinking, who has a millione dollars and would bail him out?? I agree, as much as I want to dissagree, there is too much evidence and justice will be done in some way. The last thing we need is another phedophile/molester out there and with the severity of this crime and the current crime in question; I don't doubt he could end up being a serial killer or rapist. It sucks that I'm obsessed to find details revolving a crime that a now former friend is a target of. But I am relieved that he's in a position that he's not harming others. I really can't believe that he had 7 badges even though he was stripped of his former "retired" badge when he was found trespassing in Simi Valley. All officers know NOT to flash there badge and that the department will find out. He's not smart as they say he is. If he was smart, he wouldn't have gone in this direction and get himself locked up. To me, he's a complete idiot and now a loser that deserves what is coming to him. I don't think a judge should impose the death penalty, but life in a maximum security prison. I hope for his sake, he doesn't end up being victimize and killed like the sex offender at Theo Lacy in Orange. Not sure if you are following that, you can find details in the OCregister.com . I think he should sit behind bars and dwell on the crimes he commited and how he altered the victims lives, including the families involved. I do however pray for his family. They shouldn't have to go through this, but they should have seen warning signs.

The jury trial started on the 4th. The next court date is 4/10. It's still on going. He still hasn't been charged for the murder of Justin James even though Justin's case is considered a homicide. That investigation is supposedly still on going. The State of Nevada is only charging him for the crimes committed in their state.

Walter, wow...you are good. Actually I'm all over all the sustained charges brought on Shelton for that incident including the trespassing, brandishing his badge the first time (which the chief of MBPD filed on him since he was retired), possession of weapon (which was his paton...only sworn officers are aloud to carry them), but only the kid was under the influence of those drugs/narcotics I don't recall reading Shelton was in possession of anything. But I know for a fact that he didn't do drugs during the time I knew him personally. Afterwards, I wasn't around so I have no idea. He moved within the year he sued the MBPD.
No doubt the officers in Lousiana are not all together. That's what you get in smaller towns. They report text messaging, but the difference is that text messaging is for cell phones and he was Instant messaging from Shawn's laptop. That kid was stupid for being there in the first place, especially with strangers. I don't care who it is or what they say, I wouldn't put myself in a situation with strangers. If he were drinking, that's even worse cause his judgement is way low. And I would never take an open bottle or beverage from a stranger in there household if you know what I mean. If any foul play exists, then the actor that was in the room or whom ever it was, I forget his name...he would know something was up. I'm surprised he didn't. You have two grown men in a room with an 18 y/o, so I want to know more about the history of this other guy before I jump all over Shawn. Shawn is accountable for all other unintelligent actions, but what do we know about the other party??? Look at that actor from that show Prison Break or whatever. He killed that kid or whatever cause he was under the influence.
I hate to say this, but Shawn was someone I actually dated and was unaware of his HIV status. I am, however, to this day HIV negative and I'm thankful for that. And you're right. He did live a double life. And I've been questioning everything that he had told me.
I remember him telling me "don't lie to me, cause I will know the truth" or something to the effect. But how much was true of what was said?
He told me that when he moved, he moved to Malibu, Ca. He invited me over but I had just started my relationship with my current partner of 3years. He said he was ready to focus on a relationship, but I had to decline. I couldn't dump someone I barely started going with for someone who left me in the dark and off to the curb. And I'm thankful for that. My best friend said she thought it was God protecting me from him and I have to agree. Then I found out he was in Moorpark, Ca from his myspace. Interesting. Then last week I found out all this other stuff. OH matter of fact, one of his aol addresses has malibu in it, so that is another thing I'm thinking-wtf.
I work for the county and I know that sometimes things are wrong and not updated in the system. Clark says 4/9 @ 1:30, but I checked with the court and it's 4/10 @ 1:30. I tried to look up the minutes for each hearing, but to no avail. I work nights and throughout the week, so I could never have the time to drive out to sit in court. Plus, I can't since I'm sworn and it's not something I want to be part of. I'm just curious as to what is going to happen to him now. I'm just watching from the sidelines. Strange how he impacted my life in a positive way, but impacting many others in a drastic negative way. It really does bother me that my affections for him really went beyond and now kind of thrown in my face.
