UPDATED AT 1:40 P.M.: Major roundup of drug suspects continues in LaSalle Parish

More than 20 people have been arrested as of noon today, July 9, in a big roundup of drug suspects in LaSalle Parish. More than 100 law enforcement officers from 10 agencies are taking part in Operation Third Option.


Five major drug distribution suspects were arrested early this morning as the operation was launched at 5 a.m. today, police reported. Authorities said those arrests will put a huge dent in drug distribution operations in LaSalle, Catahoula and Winn parishes.
Local, state and federal officers are taking part in today's roundup, armed with search warrants and plenty of firepower. Because of the cooperation of law enforcement agencies, "everything went off without a hitch," according to LaSalle Parish Sheriff Scott Franklin.

The sheriff had warned drug dealers that there were three options for them in the parish – quit dealing drugs, get out of town or go to jail. The latter, third option, is being enforced in today’s roundup of suspects, he said.

During this morning’s raids, a suspect’s house caught fire, apparently from a flash-bang device used by police.

Also, police shot one suspect who was resisting with a Taser.

More than 50 suspects are expected to be arrested today.

Darren Dewayne Brown, 37, was among those arrested for drug distribution, according to police. Authorities say he is a ringleader whose arrest will curtail drug activity in the area. He was arrested at gunpoint at 5 a.m. today.

Others arrested on drug distribution charges so far, police reported, include Samuel Howard III, Catrina Lynette Wallace, Michael D. Patterson Sr. and Adrian Carlinsky Richardson.

Authorities have seized vehicles as well as one home and a business.

Whatever happened to 'innocent until proven guilty' in this once great country of ours? It's really sad that you're gloating about this suspect's arrest because of her link to the Jena 6 and not the nature of the charges levied against her. It's quite obvious that minorities living in communities such as this have no other alternative but to resort to a life of crime in order to feed their families due to the overtly racist nature of those who have economic and governmental control over them. You don't want them in your schools, you don't want them working in your businesses, you don't want them attaining any sort of social standing which might contribute to their rising above poverty and crime, so why not take responsibility for your actions and admit that YOU are the reason for all the racial tension and civil unrest? Things will never change as long as narrow minded racists like yourselves are in control.

The problem with innocent until proven guilty is we know who is guilty when it comes to the drugs in our town. Being black doesn't make you a drug dealer you chose to do it because you don't want to get a real job and work like the rest of the hard working citizens of the town. This would include Rev. Al and Rev. Jackson. Two who don't do anything but show up start trouble and leave. They don't care about anyone but themselves.

"I" am the reason for ractial tension and civil unrest? Not me, dirt boy; I'm too busy working and making a living to foment any racism or civil unrest.

I would dearly love to see our poor, down-trodden, oppressed brothers and sisters rise above poverty and crime, because I want somebody else to help pick up the tax load!! Social security looms, and I want good productive workers (and I don't give a rat's rear about their color) to keep funding my monthly checks.

Innocent until proven guilty applies only in a court of law, not in a public blog. I personally hope Catrina gets three to five, hard time in a federal facility...in another state.

How many of you on this thread have ever been to Jena, La. If you have then you know its no more no less racist than the next town down the road all the way to this town. Towns are not racist, people are racist. There are no more racist people in Jena than there are in Natchitoches. Every town has crime and drugs. Talk about racist people all you want, they are everywhere. But Jena is not FULL of racist people. Furthermore, not all racist are white.

It's mentalities like yours that give the hard working Americans (Which some just happen to be darker skinned than others) a bad name. quite playing the race card every time someone get's arrested. Fact: They were killing children indirectly with thier selfish desire to make a buck. I don't care if they were green, they are criminals!!! Last time I heard it was easier for a minority to buy a home, get a job, GET A COLLEGE DEGREE,(A mind is a terrible thing to waste) PEL Grant, etc.
