Economy starts '09 on weaker footing; outlook dim

The U.S. economy started the new year on weaker footing as recession-shocked Americans retrenched further, forcing retailers to ring up fewer sales and factories to cut back production.

It is articles such as these that discourage the population from making purchases to stimulate the economy. Perhaps if the media were to publish an article focusing on the things that we could do to help stimulate the economy it would motivate people to do so. I would also like to say that this article seems very premature seeing as we are only two weeks into 2009. We've overcame economic turmoil in the past and we will do it again, but not with the help of the media, that is for sure.
