Wandering what everyone's thoughts are about the BB Gun incident at RRES?
I think it was a big stink over nothing. A pencil could cause as much damage.
The big stink is over the way the situation was handled. The principal took the weapon away from the child. She did not call the police or even the school board until later that day. Are our school officals trained to handled weapons of any kind? What if the weapon was loaded and she took it from the child and it went off and stuck another child, a teacher, a parent, or even herself? |
What are we going to do next, take away baseball bats because a child may hit another one while playing tee ball? Are we going to take away pencils because a child may jab another one in the eye? What is this world coming too when children cant be children anymore? I guess they will have to spend all their time in the house in from of the tv playing play station games. Heaven forbid if one of these games has a weapon on it.

Wow. Comparing a hand-gun to tee-ball?
Hmm...Typical Red Neck Ignorance. I very seriously doubt that most 7 yo children can distinguish between a pellet gun and a 9mm. It was probably hkn's child that brought the gun the gun to the elementary school. I am all for the removal/firing of RRES Pricipal Walters. This is the 2nd incident involving a child(s) welfare in a year and she did not take the proper steps to report the incident. Third Times the Charm and it could mean be life or death of one of OUR Children. |

Sorry, not my kid. You are over reacting to nothing. No red neck here, just a mommy who doesnt over exaggerate the small things. Grow up!

§ 18.2-282. Pointing, holding, or brandishing firearm, air or gas operated weapon or object similar in appearance; penalty.
A. It shall be unlawful for any person to point, hold or brandish any firearm or any air or gas operated weapon or any object similar in appearance, whether capable of being fired or not, in such manner as to reasonably induce fear in the mind of another or hold a firearm or any air or gas operated weapon in a public place in such a manner as to reasonably induce fear in the mind of another of being shot or injured. However, this section shall not apply to any person engaged in excusable or justifiable self-defense. Persons violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor or, if the violation occurs upon any public, private or religious elementary, middle or high school, including buildings and grounds or upon public property within 1,000 feet of such school property, he shall be guilty of a Class 6 felony. B. Any police officer in the performance of his duty, in making an arrest under the provisions of this section, shall not be civilly liable in damages for injuries or death resulting to the person being arrested if he had reason to believe that the person being arrested was pointing, holding, or brandishing such firearm or air or gas operated weapon, or object that was similar in appearance, with intent to induce fear in the mind of another. C. For purposes of this section, the word "firearm" means any weapon that will or is designed to or may readily be converted to expel single or multiple projectiles by the action of an explosion of a combustible material. The word "ammunition," as used herein, shall mean a cartridge, pellet, ball, missile or projectile adapted for use in a firearm. Well being that it is illeagal to brandish a pellet or air operated gun I dont think that calling the police would have been over reacting |

Former Leo, Furious, or Curious what ever you want to call yourself, there was nothing to this. Much ado about nothing. You are still over reacting.

i agree with hkn. if former-leo was to show these 7 year olds what he-she just posted thoes kids would not understand a thing about it. it just goes to show that what we have here is just another over protective mom that carrys thoes bottles of hand wash soap so her little darling wont have to walk around the playground with dirty hands.let the kids be kids!!
Kids these days are babied their whole lives and once they get out on their own, they just can't adjust because Mommy and Daddy aren't there to wipe their butts.

well poont, it looks like this person doesnt want to respond to what we have been telling her. i dont understand it( makes me sick )all of these over protective mothers that wont let their kids be kids. next thing you know the mothers will be going to school with them so they can protect their little darlings from all of that bad stuff at school. they fail to realize the damage that is done when the kid has to explain to their friends about their mom that is ready for the loony-bin.
Hmmm. Lets see...Over-reaction, over-protection, and loony-bin. All very interesting words to describe a dangerous incident, aren't they? So "kids" can take a gun to college and kill 31 people and younger "kids" can bring pistols to school and you are using the word over-reaction? The under-reaction to this whole scenario is, why you are "cool" with guns in school? Nowhere in this have I wiped any kids ass. There is just no thin line between school and the presence of deadly weapons. And you assuming that I am a Woman...Very bigot of you. I am a father. Yes a male. Sorry, no NRA membership OR hand sanitizer here. But, I do teach my kids "Rules". Apparently you are teaching your child(ren) that is OKAY to take a gun to school. Maybe you should be popped in the "loony-bin" and scrubbed down with your wonderful hand sanitizers. Nothing loony here. Just very concerned. Your parenting method is the reason why guns are in our schools in the first place. No rules and no respect for parents.
You are a ridiculous woman. Your parenting methods are the reason so many young kids are on drugs, they are bored out of their wits. You need to join the NRA and teach your child to hunt and fish. Oh! I forgot, you have him on an all veggie diet. Dont forget the hand sanitizer, heaven forbid. |

furious, curious, delearious or what ever you call yourself: sounds to me that you must have grown up as sheltered as the little darlings you want to save from the world.todays children are so protected by their parents they dont even want to leave the livingroom.if it cant be done on a video game then they dont want any part of it. in the summer time run them out of the house and let them figure out what they are going to do the rest of the day.let them feel what its like to get dirty, go bare-foot,play in mud.yes, there are things out there after your little darlings like ants, bees, worms, spiders and misquitos. its all part of growing up and experiencing these kind of things on your on as a child without some hyper mom or dad running to their aid every time a tear falls.now, a bb gun to me is as common as a doll. its what most boys want just like the doll for girls.i am not by no means saying to take it to school, what i am saying is when one is found at school dont over react. after all how long has kids been taking things to school they shouldnt? every sence school began. its only a big deal if you make it a big deal.
Im with you TWD, Id much rather mine get off the bus with an unloaded bb gun than a pocket full of drugs. I feel so sorry for children today, they are so sheltered at home that they dont even know to play outside, much less have an imagination. Heaven forbid if the draft starts again and the little darlings have to go to war! Oh! I forgot theres always Canada.

speaking from the point of view from living with one of theses now adults, parents should let their kids fall on their butts one good time and learn the error of their way-it totally hinders their ability to handle everyday life in the future-keep preaching honey! |
