I hope they DO park nearby and catch people drunk driving. For every drunk they get off the road that one less chance an innocent person gets killed. You got a problem with drunks getting arrested? You're so stupid.
it seems that "stupid toot'n from west newton" always has a problem with anything cops do.

just what cops want to deal with at 230am, 3 loud mouthed drunken punks.hopefully they each got a good dose of pepper spray and and a few thousand volts from a taser.

this article surprises me as well, usually they call EMS and tell the drunk to go to the EMERGENCY ROOM,(TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE), or be arrested. Which choice do you think the drunks pick???? You can add this to the list of reasons the ER wait is increasing.

BTW, you can thank both FPD and LPD for this tactic!!

Actually according to Mass general laws, when the police come in contact with a drunk who may be a harm to themselves or other, there is three options, placed into custody, given to someone who can care for them, and believe it or not, the prefered place is the local hospital until they can find a bed in a detox.

Something sounds very fishy to me about that claim. This story says that 3 cops were being helpful by assisting drunken patrons and getting them a nice, safe and comfy cab ride home.
I do no go to bars; but when I did; I never once saw cops calmly and politely playing nursemaid to drunken bar patrons. And, I sure as h#ll never saw a cop or two carefully place an intoxicated individual into a cab.
What are they going to claim next; that they were going to give the cab a police escort to the drunks house and then walk him into his bedroom and carefully tuck him into bed.
Something is VERY ODD about this story. I have seen cops pulling billy clubs on drunken bar patrons; and I have seen them freaking out band threatening to arrest drunks; and I have even heard stories of them parking up the street from bars in order to write a few tickets for DUI and DWI offenses. But I have never, ever seen or heard of cops coddling drunks at the local watering holes.
SURE THEY DO!! The "patron" was an off duty Fitchburg police officer (they don't deserve the capital letters). So drunk he was darn near falling over and being rude and lascivious with a woman in the bar who didn't appreciate it. They were covering his rear-end because the other three were going to throw him a beatin' for being so rude.
There's the truth. Deal with it

Exactly. Hey, who knows, maybe those three fools saw what was going on, and being young and stupid, "verbally harassed" the officers, who in return, did what a lot of cops do: abuse their power.
Anyway, you never can get the whole story out of an S&E report. Kind of remonds me of some police reports I've read ;)
Verbally harrassing the police when they're trying to do their job is one definition of disorderly conduct. These three fools couldn't mind their own business and got what they deserved. Boo Hoo.

Folks, after giving this story some more consideration, I believe that I have figured out why "3 cops were attempting to assist an intoxicated patron". It is actually pretty obvious; to anyone who has spent any time observing cops at clubs and bar rooms.
The person that 3 cops were fussing over and trying to make sure would have a nice safe ride home WAS A FEMALE. And, she was probably attractive.
Cops don't offer cheerie and helpful assisatnce to drunks at clubs and bar rooms; unless of course; they are the female of the species. When a young, drunken female is involved; any cop within eye shot has no problem making a complete fool of himself trying to be Mr Nice Guy. Chances are high that he is also wondering if he might get "lucky" as a result of his compassion......
Hey Darn, here's some food for thought. If your above statement is true...guess what? Who cares? Obviously attractive females get attention from males. They get off speeding tickets, they get into bars and clubs without paying a cover charge. Good looking people live in a different world than you do. If you don't like it, hit the gym and get a makeover. Seriously...now cops cant hit on pretty girls? Why not, everyone else does...Im sure you've never done any kind of favor for someone just because they were cute....that's bs.

It sounds like you have the inside info on this story. Thanks for posting it. And, if your info is correct, I already called this one.(Readers, see my previous post #13).

As I pointed out; it is MOST UNUSUAL for 3 lawmen to be "assisting an intoxicated bar patron" and going out of their way to get him into a cab.

Cops WILL DO this for an off duty fellow cop. But, as a rule; they will not be doing the same for the general public. With the general public; a more likely scenario is a big attitude problem from the police; and a quick threat of arrest to the drunken bar patron.

I figured that sopmething was fishy with this story; and it appears that I was right on the money. Again!

The newspaper article was about the arrest of three people who interfered with the police in the performance of their duties. Even if the information as stated above is true, what difference does it make? I did enjoy your little side-trip into the irrelevent, though.

Apparently, as I suspected; there really was something fishy with this story. If the post above is true; an off duty cop was the "intoxicated patron" who the 3 officers were "assisting".

I wasn't there; but I have to wonder if the 3 patrons who did get arrested were just a little too vocal about the idea of a slobering drunk, off duty cop making a pain in the arse out of himself with a sweet young thing and then being assisted by his fellow officers.

Leaves me wondering; who WERE the bad guys here; the 3 bar patrons who got arrested; or the boozed up blueboy and his cohorts.......

Well then Darn, I guess these kid learned a thing or two that night didn't they? There's a lot to be said for just minding your own business. Maybe the next time these punks are drunk in public, they'll keep their mouths shut and quietly make their way home.

The problem is they are very rarely taken into custody or PC'd, they are more often sent to the ED to sleep it off, cuz they ain't looking for detox, and you can't make them go to detox..........not to mention how few detox beds there are, never mind FREE CARE detox beds, cuz noone's go insurance that's sleeping it off in the ED.
