We need more bar rooms in Fitchburg, the police are not busy enough having to go from once bar to another

That's exactly what a new bar in town needs...to be overserving its patrons. Good thing the police were there to witness the events.

How long before this bar is in city hall for a hearing?

It's been many, many years since I've gone to a bar, but why are any bars open at 2:30 a.m.?!? In "the good old days", they had to close by 1:00. Young males, out drinking until 2:30 a.m.- sound to me like a problem waiting to happen.

"As Officers attepted to help a male patron who appeared to be intoxicated"?
Something sounds very fishy to me about that claim. This story says that 3 cops were being helpful by assisting drunken patrons and getting them a nice, safe and comfy cab ride home.
I do no go to bars; but when I did; I never once saw cops calmly and politely playing nursemaid to drunken bar patrons. And, I sure as h#ll never saw a cop or two carefully place an intoxicated individual into a cab.
What are they going to claim next; that they were going to give the cab a police escort to the drunks house and then walk him into his bedroom and carefully tuck him into bed.
Something is VERY ODD about this story. I have seen cops pulling billy clubs on drunken bar patrons; and I have seen them freaking out band threatening to arrest drunks; and I have even heard stories of them parking up the street from bars in order to write a few tickets for DUI and DWI offenses. But I have never, ever seen or heard of cops coddling drunks at the local watering holes.

There's nothing wrong with the police observing patrons leaving a bar for signs of DUI. They should do it more often. I'm not losing any sleep over three drunken fools who don't know how to behave themselves being arrested.

I agree. Makes you wonder who the drunken patron was. I've heard the old stories from years ago when cops would give someone a ride home (way before my time!), but what usually happens is the drunk is handcuffed, taken into police custody, and has a sleep-over in a PD cell. Unless of course, you're a stubborn drunk, which gets you an ass kicking from the cops, a sleep-over in a PD cell, and a court date the next morning.

OK thanks; you understand my point. The dimwit who posted #7 above missed my point all together.

Cops do not typically assist drunken patrons and hand carry them to waiting cabs at clubs and bar rooms. If they really did do it in this case; they most likely knew the intoxicated patron who they were assisting. Who knows; he may have even been a fellow officer. No, I take that back. An intoxicated lawman could simply drive away from the bar; without the sightest fear of getting a DUI or DWI offense on his way home.....

Exactly. Hey, who knows, maybe those three fools saw what was going on, and being young and stupid, "verbally harassed" the officers, who in return, did what a lot of cops do: abuse their power.

Anyway, you never can get the whole story out of an S&E report. Kind of remonds me of some police reports I've read ;)

Folks, after giving this story some more consideration, I believe that I have figured out why "3 cops were attempting to assist an intoxicated patron". It is actually pretty obvious; to anyone who has spent any time observing cops at clubs and bar rooms.

The person that 3 cops were fussing over and trying to make sure would have a nice safe ride home WAS A FEMALE. And, she was probably attractive.

Cops don't offer cheerie and helpful assisatnce to drunks at clubs and bar rooms; unless of course; they are the female of the species. When a young, drunken female is involved; any cop within eye shot has no problem making a complete fool of himself trying to be Mr Nice Guy. Chances are high that he is also wondering if he might get "lucky" as a result of his compassion......

Who knows, we will never, but some one becoming unruly out of no where is odd, there usually is a reason for the out burst ,if that was the case i can see one person doing that, but all three biligerent at the same time, does seem a bit odd, must of been provoked or some thing going on there that we dont see ,like everyone seems to agree with

I hope they DO park nearby and catch people drunk driving. For every drunk they get off the road that one less chance an innocent person gets killed. You got a problem with drunks getting arrested? You're so stupid.
