Bluefield Transit must adjust for higher gas costs

Growing fuel costs are making public transit fares go up slightly, but lengthening routes are giving area riders more opportunities to beat high prices at the pump.

I don't know about the rates, but they sure need to make those drivers slow down. They fly!!!

Unfortunately do to the rise in gas prices they are having to raise the fares. They are subsidized through grants and those grants are not increasing.

Bluefield Area Transit did raise their bus fares and put Welch to Gary on a route, and Welch, Kimball,and Premier on a route the cost to ride now is $1.25.That is for the local buses the fare for the 52 bus is $2.25. I don't think the route is going to work myself because they just go up as far as WALMART in Kimball. And they are missing out on all the riders they had from Kimball and other places they quit going.

I don't know about the fare, but I sure know that they fly in those buses. They go by doing well over the speed limit...where are the police? Will they stop them?????

A couple of the drivers have got tickets from what i know.So the police do pull them over.

I've heard since they started 2 new routes in McDowell County that the drivers need to get fuel everyday just about.How is that saving money if they're using that much fuel in a day? And nothing about the new routes was in the Welch News I wonder why?

I agree, try passing them in Northfork hollow, and no where to get over.

With gas prices going up ride the local Transit buses they need all the help they can get. Since they changed all the routes in McDowell County.

does anyone know the route of this transit. does it come to iaeger or bradshaw or war. does anyone know the routes and times, thanks a lot

It used to go to Iaeger and War but they had made some changes and cut them trips out. I wish they still went to them places. Other than that it costs $1.25 to ride in the Welch area, and $2.25 to go to Bluefield.
