Would look a lot nicer, if the hookers and addicts weren't standing under each one.....

I like the lights its a nice change...Now the kiddies can see the lights and look at the meth hooker and learn the valuable lessons of staying in school and off of drugs.

We liked seeing the Christmas lights up too. But I was a little disappointed at the tiny tree they put up down past the pawn shop. I had to laugh. And then it got me thinking.......didn't there used to be a really big tree there that they put lights on. Gosh where have I been????? LOL

The power company made them cut the large pine tree down.

yea the lights are nice, but you would think that with the extreme business taxes they charge every business in this town they could at least afford to go all the way down to the red light by the pawn shop. besides that... they shut down the street for a week just for about a block of lights?? that's just weak.

There are no two story buildings to attached the lights to in the blocks past 8th street. There are only street lights on one side of the street.

Yeah, with no B&O we'd have no municiple police force, fire dept., garbage pick up, road maintanence, code enforcement, rec. dept., etc, etc, etc.

It was hilarious! That was back in the day of streaking, and the Gong Show when the unknown comic wore a bag over his head. Thing was, everyone knew who was wearing the bag.

Those were the good ole days, when riding thru town with the windows down, not even thinking about getting robbed or beat-up. Nevertheless I still love Princeton. Didn't go to school in town, went to the big school of SPANISHBURG. But hung out at Lashmeet.(I'm a trader) ha!ha! Princeton was still the place for shopping and Christmas.

So how are they getting by in Virginia since they don't have the B&O tax?

Assuming higher real estate and personal property taxes. You tell me. It comes from somewhere, so the taxpayers pay for it either way. I used to live in Charlottesville and the property taxes there were a killer.

Just my personal observation is by the added number of business that locate there and pay the other taxes. Just look at the comparison of business and which side of the border they are located in the two Bluefields.

Yes,Mooneys is a place to remember. My 1st wreck was there. I was driving my parents new car(1 week old) and hit the back of a cadillac, looking at a guy called Chicken. No damage to either car. the lady I hit laughed when I told her i was looking at the guys.
We need to let the town council know what memories they have brought back by just putting up the lights on Mercer Street. Thanks to all of the people that came up with the idea again.
yeah! I remember Chicken. All those guys would gather to the right of the parking lot. Sometimes they gave us girls a hard way to go. I was in high school then and worked on weekends.

This has more to do with state corporate income tax rates, not city B&O. All of the border counties in West Virginia have to deal with businesses locating across the state line to avoid the higher WV state corporate taxes, worker's compensation rates and even insurance ratings. West Virginia is not at all business friendly.

We need MAJOR changes both in Charleston and on the county level (i.e. county commission). Unfotunately, the same self-serving losers will get voted back in by the ignorant voters who have continued to vote democratic for the last 50 years in southern WV. You can see where that got us..

Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now.:)
