I turn down Mercer street this morning and saw a site that made me smile at 6am and thats not easy to do. The christmas lights were lit and streamed across the road and the christmas tree was lit also. Now a little snow and I can shop! ;o)

I was surprised by the lights, too. They're a nice touch and really help liven the place up!

I like it too! Reminds me of my childhood when they put them up like that, and Mercer Street was a place to go shopping.

I agree with everyone! The lights on Mercer Street add something to this town! It's funny how just a simple thing can impact people in such a positive way. I love the lights! I hope it will continue year after year.

i love xmas time... dont get me wrong, and the ligts are very pretty... but doesnt it seem like business push the shopping up earlier and earlier each year? i mean we just went past halloween... i seen a cartoon in the paper the other day where a woman walks into a store on 11/1 and they have nothing but xmas stuff on sale and marked down and percentages off. the cashier said they had the sales because they had to make room for the valentines day stuff already... i laughed but then i realized just how true that little cartoon is.. its sad that we cant seem to celebrate hol;idays for what they were intended for... its all too commercialized anymore.....

They need to leave them up year around and just change the color of the bulbs. A lot of shopping districts do that in other areas. It would change the whole atmosphere of downtown.

The lights are wonderful! And the windows in some of the shops look all christmasey too. Balistix windows are so pretty! And the salvation army! We all need to try to do as much shopping as possible at our local shops. Now lets all pray for snow!!!

Yeah, keeping the lights up year round is a good idea. It may lend itself to the commercialism that abounds during the holidays, but maybe that's what this area needs. It would be nicer to be able to shop there rather than everyone bombard Wal-Mart.

While putting up the Christmas lights, they shut down Mercer St for almost a week between the hours of 4:30 & 7:00. Bad for businesses and also caused traffic jams. Hopefully next year they will choose a more convenient time for everyone else to put the lights up. They do look wonderful though!
