Hi. My name is Julie and while I found all the battering back and forth comical, I shared these posts with my sister. Her name is Brenda Wilson. She is a recreation and high school coach in Ohio as well as a competition judge for COA. She did not find the posts comical at all. This is what she asked me to post:
"If your child is associated with any type of cheerleading program whether it be recreation, high school or all star, you must be extremely cautious. The first thing you MUST do is require (ask for proof) that every single coach is safety trained and cpr trained. They MUST carry their certification card with them at all times. Also, they MUST provide you with proof of their insurance. Be very careful who you trust your child's life to. Also, if your team has a tumbling instructor, ABSOLUTELY ask them for proof of their safety certification. Too often, I've seen teams with a self taught coach teaching children life threatening tumbling or stunting. Please think about the fact that one wrong forward roll or even a cart wheel can break your child's neck. I've seen way too much tumbling and stunting taught improperly. Many teams claim they put together teams for the sake of the children (which is great) but make sure your child is protected. Next, it seems there seems to be a confusion on what a Recreation team is. There are 3 different levels - Recreation, School and All Star. You must register in one of the levels at each competition. My guess is that you are Recreation. Most of the organizations require that ALL Recreation programs cheer for some organization or sport. If your team does not cheer for a sport (if you have not cheered at all this year for a sport for example basketball, football) and register as a Recreation team - you are lying and if found out in our organization would not be allowed to compete. Most importantly, you are trusting your child's live in someone else's hands. Be careful, ask for copies of what I've stated above. I am sure your coaches are wonderful people and give up their free time to help your children. But, your children are trusting you to protect them. I am sure that your Coaches would love the opportunity to prove whomever posted the first comment wrong, so ask them for their proof of insurance and proof of safety and cpr certification and then post a note to the first person to tell them how wrong they were. Good luck with your season and I hope I answered some of your questions".

After reading all of these posts, I am very disheartened to hear what the mothers and coaches of the Huskies had to say. I have known several girls throughout the years who have been mentally torn apart by these coaches after not doing as well as the coaches would have liked at a competition. I have known parents that have pulled their children off the team immediately after a competition due to the insanity of the coaches comments and actions. I also know, for a fact, that the Huskies has always entered competitions as a Rec Team, when in fact they are an All Star Team. Any coach who can teach their girls to cheat, lie, and treat people in such a demeaning manner should be ashamed to call themselves a coach. I also have a real hard time with the fact that the girls on the Huskies teams are not allowed to participate in their own school's cheerleading programs. I have never heard of such a thing. Most All Star teams want the girls to get as much experience as they can, and for Heaven's sake, why would we not want our children to promote school spirit. I have never been a supporter of this team from the time they started and will never have any respect for these people that call themselves coaches.

its pretty sad to hear you say what you say. i, in fact, know almost everyone on that team along with the coaches and am proud they stick up for their team. maybe in the past the team has had problems with a couple of coaches, but has since been replaced and now have phenomenal coaches. as i am a parent of a cheerleader since this organization has started, i dont remember any child being pulled off the team for any reason. The Huskies have entered competitions under recreation as that is what they are. i remember reading names and numbers being written in previous statments for people to contact if you have questions regarding how and why they are classified as recreation. i think this is getting a little out of hand with all the negativity being posted. why not call the organization instead of hiding behind the paper to view or air your concerns. i am sure they would love to speak with you and get this situation all cleared. now as far as children not being able to participate in school activities...this is very funny. a child is allowed to participate in any sport they feel they would be happiest in. however, when you cheer on a team you can not miss the practices in cheering. if the other activities you choose do not interfere with the cheering than they are more than allowed. i think there were even a couple girls on my daughter's team that the organization worked around their schedules. i think its quite obvious that you dont have respect for them, but then again who do you have respect for? my daughter was on a recreation team from waverly a couple years ago and i believe you and your team stole from me and the other parents/participants. geez, isnt it funny how you can steal from children but then state you have no respect of the good the huskies do? boy is that the pot calling the kettle black? oh, by the way are you in any way affiliated with northeast elite?

My daughter has cheered for the Lady Huskies for two years now because to cheer for a competition team places emphasis on cheerleading as a sport, whereas, in the schools, it seems as though the cheerleaders exist for the boys of the teams they are cheering for. The girls (within at least 1 school district) are required to decorate the boys lockers and buy them candy. How archaic!!!! We also have enjoyed the family atmosphere within this organization. Everyone looks out for one another. My daughter did get hurt and was unable to participate at the national competition. It was very disappointing, and luckily, she was not seriously injured and has healed. At no time did I find fault with the Huskies organization. Watch any cheerleading routine and you better know what you are signing up for. As with all sports, there is a level of danger of getting hurt. Within the Huskies, I know that if I felt concern for the position my daughter were doing, I could say I don't want her to do that and she wouldn't be forced to do it. Puzzled wrote: We're wondering how the Lady Huskies cheerleading organization is getting away with entering events under the name of Village of Waverly recreation? There is no Waverly Rec cheerleading above 6th grade (according to the Village), yet this organization has girls from all over the place up to ages 18 and they don't cheer for anyone! They also are using the name of Tri County Recreation to enter and as we all know in the Valley, there is no such program. They're raising money under both these names and there's no accounting for the money. So, whos gonna be responsible when something happens when they're using the Village name and also that Tri County Name. It's also being said they don't have insurance and one girl got hurt and her parents had to pay all the bills. Will someone pay attention to what these people are doing? It goes beyond that cheerleading stuff.

I think you are getting the Huskies and Northeast Elite mixed up. disgruntled valley person wrote: After reading all of these posts, I am very disheartened to hear what the mothers and coaches of the Huskies had to say. Wow. You are all messed up. This looks about as bad as the beauty pageant world, or better yet - do you have a Tanya Harding on your teams? If nothing else this is funny, too bad children are involved - where are the adults? Looks like you all are giving this cheerleading stuff a bad name.
