Do you waste your hard earned money? Athens Clarke County Unified government wastes money every day and has been for years on a very inefficient bus system.

Do you know what the annual budget is for this inefficient and unfair bus which does not even provide service throughout the county? Five million seven hundred thousand dollars a year or
$5,700,000 per year.

Do you know where this money comes from? It does not grow on trees.
Athens taxpayers pay One million eight hundred thousand dollars of this money or $1,800,000 every year.

The federal government, which is bankrupt anyway, pays another

One million eight hundred thousand dollars of this money or

$1,800,000.

Not counting the money from UGA for their student riders, who have their own bus service anyway, do you know how much money is paid by the riders of this system?

Only a trivial Eight hundred thousand dollars or less than one seventh 1/7 of the total cost, yet most of our elected commissioners do not want to even raise fares at all! Why not make those who use this system pay for it; what would be wrong with that?

Most of the local taxpayers here who are forced to pay for this inefficient money waste never use these buses at all! Do you ever observe any of our commissioners riding these buses to meetings or anywhere else? Do you observe any of the businessmen or lawyers or doctors in Athens riding these buses to work? How about UGA employees? Or reporters for the ABH or Flagpole who promote this unfair and illegal moneywaste?

None of the taxpayers in the other states who are foced to pay for this wasteful bus service ever use it.

Many property owners in Athens are forced to pay for it but have no service provided to the areas where they live. This is unfair and illegal and a violation of the Georgia Constitution because this fails to provide everyone equal service under the law but forces everyone to pay for it. This is shameful.

Both newspapers here are prejudiced in favor of this wasteful system and fail to present the costs in such a way as to show how unfair this inefficient system really is. Athens might as well not even have a newspaper.

If this bus service is not made available to all taxpayers of Athens Clarke County in compliance with the law, it must be shut down completely. The Georgia Constitution declares:

"No person shall be denied the equal protection of the law". Our bus service in Athens is in violation of this provision and must be shut down because of that reason. Our commissioners took an oath under the penalty of perjury to comply with the requirements of our Georgia Constitution. They have been violating this for years now. This outlaw conduct by our government must end.

Do you waste your hard earned money? Do you like it when government wastes hard earned tax money? Why not tell your commissioners and Mayor to stop wasting public tax money and to stop violating the law they swore to comply with?

By the way, do you ever observe one of these monster buses speeding over the posted speed limit but not getting cited for it by the police here? If you do report it to your commissioners and Mayor too.
