...And wouldn't you have a persecution complex too if you were called a racist just because you happen to disagree with the Democrat position of encouraging dependence on the government or because you disagree with the Democrat president who just happens to be black. It doesn't matter how much evidence a conservative gives to support their position, the default position is that they're racist - I think you will agree that the Libs on this forum have proven that is the "weapon" of choice time and time again.

...And just who is unwilling to compromise here?

Reid and Obama stated over and over that "we will not negotiate until Obamacare is funded and the govt shutdown is ended." And if the Republicans cave (which I still fear based on McConnell and Boehner being the leaders) then they have just lost any leverage with which to negotiate so by default Dems win. That's the true extortion, the Republicans offered to fund EVERYTHING but Obamacare, and to then negotiate on that. It was the Dems who chose to make this as painful as possible for as many people as possible.
Thank God there isn't a bias creeping into the sources of your world view.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/10/12/1246...
...“Luke” tried to interrupt me but I wasn’t done speaking.“You know, this isn’t the first year ever for Congress to work on fiscal matters. The budget process is outlined in the Congressional Budget Act of 1974 with a calendar of deadlines to keep the process on track for completion before the fiscal new year on October 1. You can find that on the Budget Committee page for the House and Senate. The required deadlines were very important to the Republicans in January and they introduced the No Budget No Pay Act because they wanted strict adherence on the deadlines. It was passed in the House and Senate and the President signed it. The House and Senate passed their budgets by the deadline and what happened after that? Why weren’t the rest of the deadlines on the calendar completed?”

“Luke” didn’t sound so cocky anymore.“But the President has to negotiate.”

I told him to look at the calendar of deadlines.“The House and Senate have to go to conference to reconcile the differences between their two budget resolutions. When Reid tried to get the process started in the Senate, the usual suspects from the GOP rose one by one with objections. This was a charade that went on for weeks. They made it clear that they wanted the Democrats consent agreement in advance on all of the elements in the Ryan budget passed by the House or there would be no conference. They were the ones who didn’t want to negotiate. Read the verbatim transcripts in the Congressional Record from April 24 to May 15. The Republicans never even appointed conferees to the conference because they didn’t want to negotiate. Instead they let the clock run out on the fiscal year knowing that they made no appropriations for the new fiscal year. They didn’t even reauthorize 2013 spending to avoid disruptions on October 1. They thought it would be easier to extract concessions from the Democrats once they were faced with the urgency of a government shutdown. The President is wise not to negotiate with Republican extortionists.“

Nawwww. No one should reconcile with anyone. They should continue being divided so the vast majority of American citizens should sit back and ulcerate over whether or not our entire credibility as a country will be shattered by about 600 people speaking for us. I see where division of a certain contingent, representing an entire country, makes an enormous amount of sense. Let them keep fighting. It gives us all something to talk about, and argue over, instead of trying to formulate solutions to long standing dysfunctions. Turkey this year for Thanksgiving? Or chicken? You make the call.

Nice try, but you miss the mark as usual, oh wait, strawmen are a recurring theme with you.

Never said these conversations were with people I hang out with, but merely conversations in which I have been party to.

For example, many people who move up here feel that everyone who has moved up here has done so for the same reason, and thinking that they are among like-minded company the mask slips and the coded conversation becomes unnecessary to reveal their need to get away from wherever they were because it's been takin' over by those people, you know, folks with really deep tans.

And you just know which political party caters to those people, and how those people are so dependant on government, and on and on and on. It just comes pouring out cause it's so safe, and such a relief, to drop the pretense when you think you're among the like-minded.

SUMMARY TIME:

1. The night before the shutdown, Republicans changed a procedural rule that would have allowed a clean vote to move ahead.

This indicates that the government shutdown was planned and orchestrated by the Republicans.

2. Republicans then began a campaign to blame the shutdown on the Democrats. This campaign included Republicans showboating at the WWII Memorial (effectively using WWII vets as pawns in their game), berating Park Staff, blaming kids cancer on president Obama, and more. All of it was blatantly easy to see through.

3. As the situation got more complicated, many House Republicans finally consulted their puppet-masters, Charles and David Koch, to see what their current position was. Ultimately so many were looking to their master for guidance - that Koch Industries had to send a form letter to the Republican House members saying "Many of you have contacted us for our position on this matter". Did your Congressman contact you for guidance? The Republicans sure contacted Koch for guidance.

4. Yesterday, in the midst of absolute governmental choas - Boehner was about to put up for vote a resolution. RIGHT before it went up for vote Heritage Action sent out a memo stating they didn't think it was "conservative enough".

Republicans immediately pulled the vote based on the Heritage Action memo. Interesting to note that Heritage Action receives a GREAT deal of it's funding from a group called Freedom Action - to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.

It's interesting to note this about Freedom Action - every one of it's board members is affiliated with Koch Industries.

SUMMING UP THE SUMMARY:

1. This "crisis" was fully planned and orchestrated by the Republicans.

2. The Republican Party is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Koch Industries.

3. Charles and David Koch are played the system until they are more dangerous to America and American Democracy than any other terrorist group in the world.

4. As a voter you can reject this attack on America by refusing to vote Republican ever again.

"The only way out of this mess is through an alliance of non-Tea Party Republicans and Democrats."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line...
From the very beginning of this whole crisis, two facts have been plainly obvious to anyone who cared to appreciate the basic dynamics of the situation:

1) The incentives always argued overwhelmingly in favor of Dems refusing to concede any meaningful ground to the GOP demand for major unilateral concessions in a context where Republicans were using the threat of extensive harm to the country to get their way. This was the only way to prevent this from happening to Dems — and the country — again.

2) There was never any compromise that could prove acceptable to both Tea Party conservatives on one side, and Obama and Senate Dems on the other. One side believes it must reserve the threat of widespread damage to the country as leverage to cripple the Obama presidency before it destroys the country. The other wants to end use of that as leverage for good. That core difference was inherently unbridgeable.

Today, with Senators close to a deal to reopen the government and lift the debt limit, John Boehner may finally have to come to terms with those two facts, and accept their implications: The only way out of this mess is through an alliance of non-Tea Party Republicans and Democrats.

...However much damage this crisis has done, much of it was the direct result of the refusal by many non-Tea Party Republicans to acknowledge the basic facts of the underlying situation. Republicans steadily refused to acknowledge the actual Dem position — that they no longer would negotiate under threat conditions, because so doing would only mean more use of the tactic later. Republicans spun this situation as a conventional negotiation, and then believed their own spin — and ironically enough, this is what led them to badly underestimate Dem resolve.

The healthcare bill is law, passed by Congress, signed by the President and upheld as lawful by the Supreme Count. That's all three braches of government as the Constitution requires. Now a minority who have tried in Congress without any hope of success time and time again to change the LAW and failed every time.
A small group with a single minded agenda takes control of the House using pure an simple blackmail to try and do something they couldn't do by the legal means laid out in the Constitution. Putting the county in jeopardy in what has become a personal agenda for a few. You would think with all your skills you could see that, but you don't!
Heritage Action for America, a prominent conservative group, announced that it would “key vote” legislative action on the House proposal, holding “yes” votes against politically-vulnerable Republicans.
“Unfortunately, the proposed deal will do nothing to stop Obamacare’s massive new entitlements from taking root — radically changing the nature of American health care,” the group said in a statement.
You can't change or make law using blackmail and succeed, the American people are going to remember this for a very long time. You are killing the Tea Party, maybe that's what you want.
I personally hope you have the kind of day some government workers have that don't have any money coming in. Or people who may get sick because the CDC can't do its job, all because of selfish people like you.
Finally! I have found someone who apparently HAS signed up for Obamacare. Tell us about it. Tell us about your experience signing up. We all need some pointers.

We are also on the verge of defaulting on our government obligations for the second time in a few years.
