Two lanes open? When does that happen? I go home from work that way everyday and I dont remember the last time I didnt have to sit and wait! I have never seen construction like that and that shopping center. It seems like they do everything ass backwards! Built all the roads in the shopping center before there was anything their. Bet you wish you could work on that store under roof now. Made that road five lanes wide out front and cant figure out how to keep two open! Why not work on the new two lanes and leave the old ones alone till you can make the switch? May have something to do with most of the workers look like foreigners stealing our jobs for low wages!

I am not in the road construction buisness, but it would seem to me that whatever runs under the two new lanes would also run under the existing lanes (pipes, power etc) so to put the new lanes in they have to rmove those items under the old. Kind of hard to keep everything open and move things. Everybody wants more convience, more choices, better roads, but they want it now and do not want to be inconvinenced to make it happen. Plus I am sure the building permit required roads before construction so if there was an emergency (like a construction worker got hurt) the ambulance etc could get there.

How about they repaint the lines on the roads so people know where they are suppposed to be driving.I cannot believe it is legal to have such a skinny road with no lines, its an accident waiting to happen

They have and will continue when the weather cooperates. Winter and salt are not helping the situation.

Don't get the Gateway road construction confused with the rest of the widening project. This article is about the widening project. Any road closures around the driveway to Gateway have nothing to do with this article.

Roads are always the first thing to be built in new developments. All of the utilities must be installed before building construction can begin and they are located under the road surface.

i agree, wha. the road widening is happening for much of carlisle street, not just the gateway area. i read an article saying from carlisle st mcdonalds to appler road (just after the car dealership). what i don't understand though is why they widened the road so much for the light at gateway, but have half of it with stripes signifying they aren't using it. why waste so much of that new road? why'd they bother to do it if they aren't going to utilize it all?

It was done that way to be ready for the Route 94 widening. Conewago Contractors and Monahan worked with PennDot to make sure they were all on the same page. I say good work! Usually you see projects like this do their own thing and not talk to each other, then everything gets messed up.

Can you imagine if Gateway Hanover only had 2 lanes and opened up, then PennDot came back a year or two later and tried to widen Route 94 (moving electric, phone, curbs, sewer drains, adding turn lanes)? It would be MUCH worse than it is now.
