Do your research before you complain about taxes--i pay more taxes than you will ever--the only thing different is i don't pay for a car registration, but i pay fuel taxes, road taxes, per capita taxes , real estate transfer taxes, federal, state, local, unimployment, and yes SOCIAL SECURITY, which YOU benefit from not me or my family. OH, yeah and school taxes, and township taxes. In fact you benefit from everything i pay, not my family, or my brethern. Where do you come up with this stuff? Making it up as you go??????????

You do not pay road taxes, and as far as the other taxes and social security, it's your option as to whether or not you use it. No one makes you not take it. You can or cannot use it, it's your choice. How the hell do you think you pay road taxes? The way you pay those is by registering a vehicle, oh, I forgot you do have vehicles, just got to keep them from the Bishop. Might get in trouble with the church. There are many families that choose to home school and send their kids to private schools and they pay tuition plus school taxes which they never use either, don't see them on here whining. Get over it, you're nothing special. Although you think you are, the only reason people put up with you is for the tourist trade, do make some good money off you people.

Road taxes are a built in part of the gasoline taxation system, whereby a portion of that tax (fuel tax) goes for maintaining of the roads and public highways. Registering your vehicle is just making someone in harrisburg richer, not your roads better. If that were the case, with all the drivers, i would hope the roads would be in much better condition than that.

Actually I am not whining, someone LIED and said we don't pay taxes, i am telling you we do.

The tourist trade is not our doing, you "English" have used us to make money-- so be it. We will use that to our benefit as well, and get rich off of its as well. TAKE NOTE- not whining, just explaining to the dim witted.

Again not whining about schooling our children. Just again explaing we do pay school taxes, and tuition as well, just like a private schooler would do.

YOU want to make us feel different, as it makes YOU feel better about yourself.

OH, and i love my sons 68 camero. One hot car-get out of my way-did i mention it is registered, and here we go , hold on- its' yes i will say it,--------insured. I did it , i said the "I" word.

As for the social security, we take care of our own. A lesson , you "english" could well benefit from. But we BY LAW , pay it.

So first you get mad cause you think we don't pay all the taxes everyone else pays, then you get mad cause we don't use the services of those taxes. There's no pleasing some people.

Well then, I am going to pretend I am a periwinkle. What ever that might be. But you have that info wrong, again, my son's car is a 1967 mustang. But you got the hot part right, it surely moves faster that the horse and buggy. A mustang is a horse, ya know. Here is an interesting comparison. Not all children who go to public school, have parents who can own homes-since they dont own homes, they do not pay school taxes, yet we still educate the children of these families, as it should be. Same with the roads. Not all of us have cars, "english" or otherwise, so we don't pay registration, that you think keeps the roads in good shape. But we all use transportation, whether by bus, taxi, or a hired ride. WE also purchase gasoline for farm equipment, generators, etc, which does have a road tax on it. So we are indeed paying for the roads. But using your logic, if you don't pay all the taxes you shouldn't use the services. Tell that to the parents of children, who don't/can't pay school taxes. Should a senior citizen who can no longer drive, due to health reasons, not be allowed to use the roads in Pa. because he didn't pay a registration fee? Should a disabled person, who may not be able to be employed, drive, and pay taxes, be denied the right to use the roads, or and other services?

And periwinkler, post under your own name, thank yo.

anyone else enjoying the stupidity of this topic ? i'm loving it myself because it puts two groups of idiots on the same side of an issue. first we have the left wing lunatic fringe animal rights folks that want to outlaw animals for slaughter but usually are pro choice for humans. then there's the ever hatefull extreme right wingers that view the amish as un-american. they love to start in about good's stores not selling american flags or the shady maple rest. not serving veterns, etc... go listen to your heros rush and beck and continue to tea bag it and fight for the interest of the big health insurance companies that will screw you as quickly as anyone else. assuning you have health insurance in the first place. anyway, as unfair and rediculous as it is to generalize about an entire group of people, i will say that i've found the amish i've been around to be nice folks and fair to deal with. there are some "english" parents that could take a lesson or two about child rearing from them as well. the children are usually well behaved unlike the "english" darlings that treat us to their temper tantrums. are all the amish saints ? or course not, but neither are they all evil. God made a big world out there so there would be room for everybody. some of you need to repeat kindergarten cause you missed the lesson on how to get along and play nice with others.

The per capita taxes go to the school system, so even though they may not own property, they still pay something. As for all this other stuff, have a nice day! God Speed to all.

hey ahhhmishman, just trying to help a brother out. I think its funny how these idiots think you are getting away with something. They probably all rent, and don't work. And their fussing about you not paying a registration fee. Yeah that $36 or so, is really going to go a long way to repair Pa.'s roads.

You might want to check tax records, some of these plain people, pay upwards of$15,000-$20,000 school taxes a year. And that is just one tax, not all the others they pay. Just like most of us do. To imply they don't pay their fair share, is uneducated.

Go to New Holland auction any Monday and just watch them talking on their cell phones while watching their beat up, broken down, bloody horses being sold to slaughter buyers. What about keeping TV's hidden until very early morning then plugging them in, and all the other "electric" stuff they have. It's such a crock, they only "act" amish to avoid taxes. And I have NEVER seen a group of people take worse care of their animals. They don't give a crap about anything besides keeping up the act. I'm sure somewhere there's a few "real" ones left, but there's not many.

I wonder if the female dog who is kept in an 18" x 18" crate and bred continuously her entire life finds them honorable.
I wonder if the horse who faithfully took their family to church and work and helped to plow their fields and put some green in their pocked then when it can't perform up to their standards is sold for a horrific slaughter finds them honorable.
I don't find their behavior humane much less honorable but then many believe the almighty dollar trumps all else.
I am absolutely shocked at your very decided opinion of how they ALL treat their animals. How many DIFFERENT amish did you see actually doing this or are you seeing one, two or three same men do it?? That doesn't justify them, No, of course not, but let me tell you of an experience we had with a puppy we bought from an amish lady. Her female dog had 5-puppies, in the house, on her bed!!! These puppies were the very picture of health and energy, all were dewormed and vet checked and had their shots. The mother dog was also very well groomed and clean, and seemed to adore her mistress and master. They told me she is their baby, and they want to have her spayed as soon as the puppies are sold, as they don't want her to have puppies again. When I asked how many litters she had already, they said this is her first! I am enjoying my puppy very much, he is so adorable... As for their horses, I don't know much about them, but this lady had two horses on a large green meadow, both looked well cared for. What would you do if your horse became old and lame? Just let him suffer till he dies on his own? Or have the vet put him down? Some amish do that, I KNOW that

I never really had aproblem with the amish before they stayed out of my way as well as myself staying out of there way. How ever until today when just arriving at my house in New Holland as i was getting out of my truck I looked down the street to see a horse laying on it's side as if it had collapsed so i jump back in my truck drive down and this amish lady is just sitting in the buggy not doing anything (like it happens all the time) so i said to here is your horse ok? she says oh yeah he's fine so the horse then jumps up and i tell her your horse can't be fine and you can't let him keep going. she didn't give a sh%t she just sucked her teeth to tell the horse to keep going. How ignorant what was I suppose to do call the police and give them a tag number? ha ha ha they all look the same to me anyway and it's so funny that there all stoltzfus. so what do we do in a situation like that? it's just so wrong
