I am of a small town in a neighboring state but am familiar with Holton. What I was not aware of is the problem of cowardice or un-concerned citizens. Holton has always seemed to me to be a town where the majority of the citizens promoted the town, schools, and local events and community activities. Now I come to find out that there have been some major issues with the fire protection and several businesses/properties questionably lost to fire in the recent past. There seems to be a concensus of many that the firefighters indulge or allow drinking on duty and response to emergencies by intoxicated or impared responders. Has anyone's children or loved one died as a result of this or is it yet to happen? Are the City officials, Mayor, Manager, City council and their families exempt from adhering to the same laws as you.(most town require in the position-acceptance-oath that the official swears to enforce and uphold the laws) Is it true that a Police officier or Chief was questioned and preasured to recend a DUI ticket for the a person because they were related to the Mayor? How long has this been going on, and how long have YOU, the citizens known about this type of corruption? What will it take to get your attention other than your house burning with your kids inside or your wife injured or killed by this same type of excused repeated DUI offender....only cause they knew somebody who was corrupt enough to allow them another chance to get you or yours rather than stop them initially!

Our town suffered from much the same problems a few years back. We finally said enough!! We did not risk our families or properties any longer. Instead of waiting for the next election and allowing the memories and concerns to dwindle or keep our citizens at risk.... WE IMEADIATLY FIRED THE CHIEF OF POLICE AND IMPEACHED THE MAYOR WHO WERE THE BIGGEST PERPETRATORS. AT THE NEXT ELECTION, WE VOTED OUT THE CORRUPT & INEFFECTIVE ALDERMEN AND REPLACED THEM WITH GOOD LEADERS.

It was not an overnight turn around but most safty issues were rapidly addressed by a new,well qualified and honest, Police chief and officiers. Over the next 6 months, the town was once again a safer place with an honest and active city gov. who had the communities "best interest" as their agenda, rather than cover-up of criminal relatives & friends. You too can make your Town a safe place to reside that is protected by a good police and fire dept. and a supportive city government. The time to move on this is "yesterday", not after your's or your neighbor's family is wiped out by fire or an irresponsible DUI. Get the movement started and it will surprise you how fast so many will step forward and injoin you. They are and will tell you, "they're glad someone finally took the courage clean up the town and make it safe, They were only waiting on a leader to step forward so they could follow and assist to do the right thing." It's not an easy step at first, but you will really be surprised how easy it becomes so long as you keep RIGHT on your side and speak up loudly. Now, are you gonna just say, "your right, someone needs to do something" or are you gonna step up to the plate and be the responsible person that you are trying to raise your kids to be??
