When will people understand that these anymals have an aggresive nature.
Poor little girl... she did not have to suffer this fate.

Shame on the parents.

Speaks the Truth...
Rotts are not typically an aggressive dog. They are in the same family as German Shephards. I have owned many Rotts over the years and have NEVER once been bitten or even threatened.
Dogs are like any other animal (humans included), when they are treated lovingly and with respect they live up to their true nature as mans best friend.
I agree on the "Shame on the Parents" part. Interesting to look at the history of behavior with these specific dogs and their owners!!

They are still animals and will act like animals given the chance. I would NEVER trust one around any child.

Give the dog to Danielle Graham and Hakeem Funtua, they'll take good care of it.

You've never been bitten by a Rott, but then you weren't four years old and left alone with one regularly, were you?
Dogs view a small child differently than they do an adult, and some may feel more enboldended to do something they wouldn't do to an adult.

They may be man's best friend, but not all dogs are necessarily a small child's best buddy.

That may or may be not in this instance. It could be as simple as the dog being jealous of the child.

Why would a parent put there child in a position like this. If the odds were 1 in 10,000,000,000 I wouldent take a chance with my child ! I am sorry for your loss.

'...child left alone' is the clue... the humans are responsible. dog breeds are not the problem.

Put the big man with the big ego and big dogs in a b-i-g jail cell. Tears for his daughter, he shouldn't have been raising her.

Dogs have been bred to do specific jobs. Retrievers, Shepard's, Pointers are working dogs, Rottweiler's, Chows, etc are guard dogs. These guard dogs and fighting dogs have it bred into them to do what they do. Jail the owners for this tragedy and make people put them in fenced yards. These dogs will be put down now that they have mauled this poor little girl. This should not have happened with responsible owners.

I know there isn't much info in this article, but how could they not have heard the attack? How could it be that they found her after it happened?

The parents need to be held accountable for this.

Ah yes, blame the dog and now we've gone from Rott to Pit-bull. If you are sitting around "wondering when the next Pit-bull murder/mauling would occur" you have too much time on your hands and again, this was NOT a Pit, but this is a very sad very avoidable tragedy and it's a complete shame that people are not responsible when it comes to owning a dog. I've said it before and will say it again, NO DOG SHOULD BE LEFT ALONE WITH A CHILD UNATTENDED. Doesn't matter the breed, this is just common sense! The owners absolutely appear to be completely irresponsible dog owners which makes me wonder the purpose of their owning a dog in the first place. Now they have to live with the fact that because of their irresponsibility, their 4 yr. old child is dead and I am ashamed to say that. Hopefully, they will never have another animal in their home because it is painfully obvious that they are irresponsible. This is a true tragedy for this baby.

Why would anyone have potentially vicious dogs at home around the kids anyway?? They'll have to live with it and this will probably destroy their marriage. I can see the blame game starting. Hmmmmm.....let see here....Bad Karma comes back 100 fold. Too bad the kid died a horrible death. I am so sorry to read all this. No winners here. The parents lose, the kid is dead.....the dogs will be put down....A marriage will likely end and the parents will have to remember this for the rest of their lives. Was this worth having vicious dogs to boost ego??

I once had a small pet dog that was friendly with children but when one of my toddler nephews began hitting and poking the dog, I realized that the dog might retaliate in self defense. My brother thought it was cute and didn't stop his son from tormenting my dog, so I put the dog out in the back yard.
Simple step to take, but a very necessary one. Sometimes even the best of pets have their limits.

Of course you don't leave children alone with a dog but that wasn't my main point in rebutting the other poster. Even a well-treated dog can revert to its nature and do something like this, and some breeds are more likely than others to do this.
