This is really sad. This does not need to happen. The board needs to look for other ways to cut costs. For instance, Volusia County is top heavy. There are more administrators there than in any other county. Perhaps cutting at the top might be a good idea. Maybe Margaret Smith should NOT get a raise this year as she has in the past. Might be time to vote in a new school board....one that doesn't just rubber stamp everything Margaret Smith says!!!!!

Lake highland and Rollins to name but two yes, kids in Volusia County with parents in a lower income bracket will send their children to Lake Highland Prep. And Rollins. Were you reading this article? It sounds like you weren't. If Amendment 1 is to blame for this, I find that hard to believe, this is a good example of the reverberations we were afraid of. To parents in Volusia, let's vote these sorry bureaucrats out when we get the chance.

Amendment1

Oh Joy! Now we will have to hear how Amendment 1 is causing every problem in the state! You complain because you won’t see the savings on your taxes. You complain because every budget cut can be traced back to the savings you “didn’t see.” All the while enrollment has been decreasing and cuts were happening long before Amendment 1 was even on the table. People stopped buying… could it be they can’t afford it? Could it be that the property prices and property taxes were too high? Naah! All the problems are because the voters asked the state to stop bleeding them to death… right? Right! I am so glad that we have all of you to keep reminding us how “right” you are!

sad in Volusia

This can't be blamed on Amendment 1. This is a result of poor resource management at the top. A less than 5% decrease in enrollment in an already overcrowded school district should not mandate the closing of schools. We are a part of bureacratic blindness and no concern for the places that work. I am so sad for those children and those schools. We need to concentrate on early childhood education to make lifelong learners, and instead we are wasting million of dollars trying to excite already neglected high schoolers about getting higher education. This needs to change.

Maybe it's time for YOU to change with the times. Your school was dying. Time to consolidate and go where the students ARE, not where they USED to be. Move out of the sticks. The change may do you good. teacher1 wrote: This is really sad. This does not need to happen. The board needs to look for other ways to cut costs. For instance, Volusia County is top heavy. One of the many reasons we home school. Most, not all, public school governments do not have the best interest of the children at heart. It's all politically and financially driven. We'll continue to keep it at home.

The public should know and always remember that government and large corporations always cut from the bottom up and not the top down.
