Though massage therapy is âone of the fastest-growing industries,â there remains many questions within our regional culture of York and Adams County residents about âwhat to expect.â I only recently heard from local high school faculty some of the same questions I had heard 25 years ago when I started my professional practice. Unless these questions are answered, some will simply never try massage therapy for any medical condition regardless of any licensing law. For example,âmust I be completely undressed?â Though most massage therapy is traditionally performed with client unclothed, client should be informed to disrobe only to their comfort level; practitioner leaves room while client is disrobing. Massage Therapy professionals will inform first-time clients they can expect to be properly, respectfully draped at all times for warmth and comfort; generally, only area of body being worked is exposed. Most therapists will encourage their first-time clients to ask questions if they are unsure of anything. Even something as simple as âshould I talk or not during the session,â and âhow will I feel after the sessionâ are perfectly acceptable.
