I'm not sure this church constituted as a national monument, however, I'm on board with the rest of them.

It was 4 years old; hardly a national monument. It was an illegal building which was - as proven by the morons who started the fire - a potential deathtrap and a hazard to the neighboring buildings. Was the fire a good thing - of course not. It was a criminal act and the perpetrators must be punished. But again - it was not a national monument.

I completely agree with you Patty. This was not an historic Civil War Chapel, it was a building that did not meet code. No question arson is a criminal act that puts lives in danger, however, I have to wonder if the vinyl roof was still on there(as allowed by code), would the fire have done as much damage and risked as many lives? This illegal church (which was probably not paying property tax) has now cost the rest of us Gettysburg residents money for police and fire services. What about the buildings around it? How many people are now out of work from the coffee shop? This would be easier to take if it was a legitmate buidling. The owner of this church needs to be held financially responsible for the costs of the damage to the surrounding buildings. I'm sure they had insurance, but guess whose insurance premiums will increase because of the church's overall negligence.

My previous post shows I am from Philadelphia, I am a Gettysburg resident, no where on this posting form does it ask where I'm from.

I tired of hearing about this chapel, yes it was a horrible thing that happened. The news doesnt follow up on the families left homeless, The home owner next door or the business owner on the other side. You should be reporting on everyone involved and not just the chapel. A lot of people were affected in this whole thing......

Yes, I also agree the victims should also have their side of the story to tell. These varmints will be caught sooner or later. Human nature will surface and the blabbing will be out. Humans like to speak of their accomplishments, good or bad. We can't help it, it just happens.
