Bears Emerg From Aspen-Area Dens, Find Little Food

The bears are back in town -- and they're hungry.

Bears are emerging from their winter dens in the Aspen area and quickly getting into trouble. A driver struck and killed one in Snowmass Canyon Thursday.

State wildlife officials said a bear broke through a glass door in a home east of Aspen Wednesday.

The Aspen area was besieged by bears last year as the bruins dug through trash cans and invaded homes looking for food. A spring freeze followed by dry weather wiped out much of the bears' natural fare. Read more

Here come-'D'-bears again.

As long as I lived here, off and on for 35+ years, the bear thing comes up every year.

People here, so many,but not all, do not have a clue when it comes to the bears. Cover your trash, do not leave food out in your kitchen, or dirty dishes. The bears can smell this stuff and will enter your home, or your car, suv, or truck.

It is true shame that so many bears are killed every year due to the idiot people who live here, some only for a few month a year.

There should be a fine in the thousands of dollar range for these idiots who invite bears into their home because they do not cover their gargabe in an approve garbage container that a bear cannot open.
