Prison guard accused of sex with inmate

A female prison guard in Bertie County, N.C. has been criminally charged for allegedly having a sexual relationship with an inmate and getting pregnant with the inmate's child.

Why can't people not misuse power? As a member of public safety, also a woman, I really appreciate when women like this make my job more difficult. It's already hard enough to be considered equal in the eyes of my mostly male co-workers. I already have to be better to be considered competant, and quite frankly it's women like this one who help perpetuate this male attitude. Let's not even talk about the sterotype of the fact that men have and continue to be doing the exact same thing, but because they can't get pregnant, according to the authorities in this NC town, they could not be prosecuted. I think she should obviously resign, but I do not agree that she should be charged with a crime or do any time just for having sex with and inmate. She is a woman and he is a man. She broke some rules, fine let her lose her job, but as she stated I am sure she wasnt the only one. True he may not have been a Smart choice. He is in prison, what can he really do for her, but maybe he was a kid when he did armed robbery and it could be 20 years later. He could have learned from his crime, earned a degree in prison, who even knows what made him attractive to her.

She probaby couldnt get a man on the outside, so she had to settle for the satisifaction from a inmate. I know that sounds mean, but could be the truth. I have worked around prisons of this security level. The shame is that she has lost her job in a current poor economy and the inmate will just continue his sentence without punishment for this. I got to say that her actions to allow this to happen were pretty stupid.

This shouldn't surprise anybody. For one, she is the poster child for Affirmative Action; I'M sure there were FAR MORE qualified security guards for the position. Hell, this yam could hardly speak English.
So what does the future hold? The same ol' same ol'- welfare mother on the dole raising a bastard whose future is crime, while baby-daddy serves his time.

With that said, she has damaged herself and her child's life more than she can image. Also, she is making herself look really bad on tv.

I agree she did very wrong. I agree the state will probably have to pick up the tab in the rearing of this child. She has done wrong. I would like to say think about a womans prison. It happens there too. Male guards have relations with the women. They have just been lucky none have gotten pregnant. Maybe they have and been able to hide it from the news better.

It's a disgrace. I worked five years in the priosn system as a correctional officer and have seen this before. I still don't understand why women fall for these lines that the inmates throw at them. They all know that they are being used. There are plenty of male COs that work there. They can at least take them out to dinner. Not be forced to have a quickie in a mop closet...especially knowing that they may just finished having relations with another male inmate. It happnes and the women should have better respect for themselves

I work as a female C/O and it is hard enough to get the respect from the male C/O's working their because they belive that we are there to mess with inmates. She makes alot of female guards look bad how dumb can you be. She didn't care rather she lost her job, what the inmate might have had or the fact that she is gonna get locked up and taking away from the son she already has. SHe has Violated the PREA (Prison Rape Enforcement ACT) law to the fullest she is going to face federal charges. While the inmate what gets transferred to another prison and waits to sue her for rape. darn shame.

Yes they are all human but officers suppose to act in a professional manner and what she did crossed the line, doing anything to jeopardize the safety of staff is outrageous and all individuals should not be just fired but do some serious time.
