Jehovah's Witnesses convention begins Friday at Resch Center

I still remember the days when they all used to pile into Yankee Stadium for their asinine conventions. Thank God Steinbrenner finally put an end to that after 1990!!

I remember attending those conventions at Yankee Stadium when I was just a kid.

They were usually held in July or August and were 5 to 7 days long, with sessions starting at 9 a.m. and ending around 8 or 9 p.m.

After attending sessions all day, we would then take the subway out to some private home in the Bronx where we would watch the roaches climb the walls as we climbed into bed.

oh gross roaches at night in the city nasty nasty! i never saw on until i went to visit in borroklyn it was ok during the day but oh man at night gross i could not sleep and told my dad never again

It was scary. And, in addition to the roaches, my mom and I would often have to walk from the subway to the private home where we rented a room at around 10 p.m. and go past gangs of teenage boys hanging out on the street corners.

It was hot, the sessions were boring, and the rooming arrangements were frightening for a 9 or 10-year-old...I can assure you of THAT!

How is it "informational," exactly? Here's a snyopsis, for those who won't be able to attend. It's pretty all encompassing:

-The world is evil. This is evident by "x,y,z,.."

-Obviously the world cannot go on much longer--it must be destroyed.

-Jehovah is using JWs to spread the "good news" about the destruction of society as we know it. As proof of their alone being used by Jehovah to warn the nations of impending calamity, JWs records spending "xxx,xxx,xxx" hours in house-to-house ministry and bible studies, placing "x,xxx,xxx pieces of bible "literature," with those seeking the truth.

-Keep vigiliant because the end is certainly near (as it has been for the over 150 years they've been preaching it and for the 7 or 8 generations that would *never* die before seeing the end. Oops, well, you won't hear the last part said, ever).

-Don't be tempted to go to college to make something of yourself in this world that's soon to be destroyed.

-Don't be tempted to become involved in activities which might lead you away from Theocratic pursuits (translation: anything that has anything to do with anything other than meetings, field service, assemblies, praying, and studying JW publications.

Consider yourselves all up to speed. Of course you'll hear a lot more words at the assemblies, which have now been thankfully pared down from 7 days to what 2-3 days?

The Watchtower is a total ripoff,their core doctrine is that Jesus ALREADY had his second coming in 1914 and made them da boss.
Two or more wrongs don't make a right just because false Christians abound does not make Jehovah's Witnesses the truth.

2 Many false prophecies that you dared to print up by the millions and cannot deny

3 Only literal 144,000 only go to heaven

4 Corruption in leadership as bad as the Vatican

5 Child abuse and abuse of your elderly many who put faith in the imminent 'new system' and did not put away for their old age retirement Long time Watchtower believers like my OWN parents and grandparents who gave everything to the man made Watchtower.

6 Thousands who died for the WT flip-flopping ban on blood transfusions.

I was born a 3rd generation JW in 1957 I know what's going on people.The Watchtower NEVER thought they would have to defend their positions in 2007 it was suppose to be all over a long time ago.

I never heard of this before coming to this forum, and I am still trying to figure out exactly how taking blood to save your life is so evil. I mean, I know it has some drawbacks, and it is possible to contract a disease from a blood transfusion, but if you're bleeding to DEATH, which is worse? Dying for sure or having a slim chance of something going wrong from the transfusion? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Im not a jehovahs witness and never have been I will tell you blood saves lives the scriptures teach it

Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.(John 6:53-56)

I know this is in reference to the Lords table or memorial but if you do not partake of the emblem of the blood of christ you have no life in you

so the blood of Christ does save lives

consider the witnesses that lost their lives by not having vaccinations and organ transplants because the watchtower organization tuaght it, then they changed their minds and said it was ok, what of the poor Jehovahs witnesses that lost loved ones at the command of a ornanization that changes doctrines and medical practices, how must God feel when he sees this being done in His name

So they tell people to do dangerous things or to not do things that keep you safe and change their mind later about it? Can they say lawsuit?

What's wrong with getting vaccinations? I know they are weird about blood transfusions, but it's okay to get an organ transplant?
