WOW! Wish I could be there.
I heard Ruth Heflin and her camp meetings were something else. Must have been wonderful.
It would be great to have some of the "fire" here in Franklin County on a regular basis.
I like Franklin County but overflowing with the "fire" we are not. FC has lots of churches, lots of programs, lots of everything else, church wise. But somewhere the fire has been lost and is down to a mere spark.
Love the "fire". Love being near the "fire". Love hearing stories about the "fire".
As William Booth wrote 100 years ago, "Lord, send the fire".
Have you been to New Testament Baptist Church in Greenvillage. Good preaching & often has guest pastors like Dr. Dennis Corle, Dr. Jon Jenkins.....Every summer they have a God Bless America Conference with Dr. Jenkins & he's just awesome!

AnonyMouse, thanks for your kind words and for explaining what was happening here. I wasn't quite getting the jump from Peter Popoff to this situation. If anyone knows our church, they know we are just a small church, and if people know me, I am pretty conservative and work a full-time job besides pastoring. Not trying to get rich or trick anyone. I try to minister with faithfulness to God's Word, and in love, but probably preach pretty poorly sometimes and miss the mark on love at times too. Our congreghation is made up of ordinary people who just love Jesus and who want to join together to do our part to be a blessing to our community (We all have to live here!) We all grow more and more. As I heard one preacher say, "I'm not where I want to be, but I'm further along than I was last year." As believers, all of us have the goal of becoming more like Christ, but we also all ahve days where we would probably like to kick ourselves in the seat of the pants. LOL.
LOL! Ain't that the truth!

Your humility and gentleness are quite evident in your posts. There is no question of your sincerity, and your church family sounds beautiful. The best any of us can do is endeavor to be faithful to the Word, bless our community, and strive to be more and more like Christ.

I have a special place in my heart for bi-vocational pastors. Being among the community, in the marketplace, on a daily basis helps keep you connected to your neighbors in a way that full-time pastors sometimes lose. Blessings to you in your ministry, and I hope your camp meeting is very successful.

I want to 2nd these sentiments. I sincerely hope & pray that these services will be all and more of what you want; and that hearts & lives will be touched. I also pray that your church prospers and is a light in the community.

Stepped inside once to get some information, but never been to a service.

Most Baptist churches have reputation for being fine bible teaching/believing churches.

I would disagree on a few "outer core" issues with some baptist churches but on the matters that matter, I love my baptist brothers and sisters.

One thing I like is their staunch support for the inerracy of the word.

another is their belief in "going to the hi-ways and the by-ways and compelling them to come in".

Witnessing is also a mark of many baptists.

Some baptist churches have gone off the deep end and turned towards accepting of sinful activities. I think they are part of the "american baptist church" (you cancorrect me if I'm wrong).

i like the idea that when I drive by NTBC on sunday nights, there are a lot of cars in the parking lot. Many churches don't have service on sunday, partly because no one shows up.

But at NTBC i always see a good number cars.

A couple quotes from Samuel Chadwick:

The soul's safety is in its heat. Truth without enthusiasm, morality without emotion, ritual without soul, make for a Church without power. Destitute of the Fire of God, nothing else counts; possessing Fire, nothing else matters.

And...

The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work, and prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but trembles when we pray.

Pastor Miller,
I was wondering how the service went with your guest?

Gil Howard Browne coming back soon?

Gil may pass through this year. He was one of the kindest giving ministers we have had in in 2008.
Pastor Jane's service went very well. Full house with extended worship and a great message on the indwelling Holy Spirit from John 14. We made a DVD-or are trying to make a DVD-of the service. Contact me through the church website, and I'll send you one if they turn out.
It amazes me how some ministers get such reputations, among some, but, when you sit with them one on one, they are just jewels! We have been blessed by the speakers we have had, because none of them demand anything, and all have been so giving of their time and everything else.

Pastor Ryan, the man who posts as jtb is somebody you want to distance yourself from. He has made some very hateful statements, supposedly based on his beliefs, on other topix discussions, and it will not behoove your ministry to be associated with him. One statement he made was to wish that Mr. Obama's days are numbered, using passages from the bible that deal with the death of the person whom the wish is for. As you can guess, this type of "supporter" will only hurt your church, and I recommend that you distance yourself from him, at least publicly. If you know who this individual is, please counsel him, as he has apparently lost his way.

ROFLOL

Pastor Ryan,
What I said was to repeat part of the prayer David prayed in Psalm 109:8, "may his days be few and may another take his place of office".

I said nothing about death. SBE is just a bit bitter. She's quite the liberal and like most liberals she tries to shut down any opinion that she doesn't like or doesn't match up with her liberalism.

I first heard that verse in reference to President Clinton at a Christian Coaltion meeting in Washington in 1993 (I think).

Just remember, Jesus spent much time with the sinners, the beggars, the outcasts, the tax-collectors, etc.

So if I'm as horrible as you say I am, SBE, Pastor Ryan would probably love to take me under his wing and disciple me and lead me onto the paths of righetousness.

JTB has also stated that he hopes that President-Elect Obama cheats on his wife as President Clinton did as a scandal to "bring him down" would be a good think~he also calls other posters who do not agree with him bad words, names etc...he constantly tells people that they are not going to heaven ~~ this man is frightening...he is turning people off to Christianity.

I hope Pastor Ryan does take you under his wing...would be good if some good gentleman did and showed you how to be as Christian like as you proclaim yourself.
