I think he should be, after two years of the way the police have treated me about a bad neighbor.

After 10 years, all I did was ask her to leave me alone in a non-violent and peaceful way.

She was allowed to vehicular stalk me, and the peawce has been disturbed every since.

I am inside my house and do not even look her way, and what is said is the "future Mrs. Burton."

There are honest witnesses to this hate crime.

I don't care who is the "future Mrs. Burton," who has been the "past Mrs. Burton," or who is the "present Mrs. Burton."

I just want my right to privacy and my right to be left alone.

I worked hard to own this house and year. Nobody gave it to me, and I am not part of the gossip and mean stuff done.

I am married, have a family and am a preschool teacher and writer.

I could no longer tolerate the aggressive behavior after 10 years, and I can no longer tolerate this after almost two years.

I think we need some honest officers who will do their job, and I know that they are there. I cannot involve them, out of fear of their being fired or reprimanded.

But, this needs to stop.

Why doesn't he, or one of his officers, or his wife come on here to defend him?

Feel free to edit any time. Welcomed. This is not a formal grammar place. The editing can actually get to be fun. This forum is a place where we can express free thought without going into formal diction.

If it were not, then I could edit your statement to say that a comma is needed after the word teacher, as that is an introductory clause that leads into your main thought. Thank you for making it a complete thought.

(I am also a certified literacy tutor of reading and writing.)

Speaking of teachers...

Open Letter to Our Mayor, Council, and State Legislators:

In the growing mistrust of the Columbia Police Department and the increase in gun violence in our culture, as a whole, perhaps it would be helpful if the officers took the Associates degree plan at MU, and that would qualify them to work office desk staff/clerks and not be in contact with the public on the street.

MU-Columbia already has the four-year degree plan with an internship and practicum, and these graduates would qualify for the street patrol.

Then MU has the graduate degree in Criminal Justice administration - and this should be the requirement for promotion and rank - just like in teaching. When we require all this study of human behavior and social issues for our teachers, why are not these requirements made for the police officers who serve us, as well?

We don't need less guns, and we don't need more guns. We just need well-trained "protectors and servers" who can read people for what they are. That takes insight and knowledge, in dealing with all sorts of people. Then fewer mistakes will be made.

Thank you, honest officers, who serve us faithfully every day. We support you enough to ask for these changes in the Missouri departments of safety requirements.

It's like bullies after your children. If you don't look after your children, who else is going to care more to look after them? If you don't try to stay safe, then you cannot trust anyone else to keep you safe. My question is why are not street patrol officers required to take the same four-year degree requirements that teachers do, with practicum and internship? That doesn't make sense, that they are not - and fewer mistakes would be made if they could read people like teachers read child behavior. Too much is at stake for them not to, and that needs to be address, along with cleaning/shaping up the department, for everyone to do his/her job that we hired him/het to do.

@Pee Wee:

I think, with time, the good guys finish first - and the bad guys leave. I thought Ken Burton was a hero, and an answer to prayers. I am not so sure - yet - that he is not being framed to some extent in political moves. But I do know what is going on with a bad neighbor is illegal, and it is being taken care of, and without their fully knowing all the circumstances involved.

When Ken Burton has only a few years away from retirement, and he has spent his whole life in service to the communities in which he has lived, in some capacity, and very often in law inforcement, the true character of the guy will emerge, the more pressure is put on him.

Personally, I think that he has the with-all to withstand all and do the right thing.

Thsi thing that happened on our street could have been taken care of, with one visit out.

I am quiet and resigned to the fact, that it will be taken care of, in short notice now.

I am a firm believer in that you reap what you sow.

I would like to see Ken Burton shake the crap off his shoes and rise and shine.

But, if he cannot do that, then we need to get someone who can.

I've seen you ranting about Burton on the newspaper forums in the past. Can you please list for me the illegal acts that your neighbor has committed? Just curious. I wonder what it could be that is so bad that you expect the chief of police to personally come to your neighborhood to resolve your little spat.

If the chief is so interested, why doesn't he ask himself?

I do not rant, I state facts. And they have been the same facts, again and again, for almost two years now.

And, I do not gossip. So, if you want an answer from the chief, why don't you ask him yourself?

Will the police be honest with you, or wil they cover it up?

If you have read what I have written, then you know what has happened.

And, I have not changed my story from Day 1.

Thank you for your interest.

I don't believe I have ever had the honor of meeting a Jim Michealson in Columbia.

But nice to hear someone comment on here.

Maybe we will get more interest in this, as we go.

I intend to check often, and I was the best supporter of the police in the world until this "bad neighbor" thing happened.

And, when it happened to someone as quiet and law-ambiding as I am, it could happen to anyone.

By the way, the gossip and hinted pressure already involves Burton. I am not responsible for that, and I have never met the Burtons. I want the gossip and meanness to stop. I want someone held responsible for this peace disturbance.

Why don't you call the police about it, if you are curious. They told me not to call when I tried to document her behavior, and that is what I was advised to do when this sort of thing happens: document it with the police.

I will give you a hint: "the future Mrs. Burton"...

If you want the gossip, why don't you come over here and ask the neighborhood gossip - which isn't me. I just tell the facts of what happened to me when I write, and I don't get involved with anything outside my house. Maybe someone on this street will be glad to help you out also.

I just want this settled once and for all - and I want my privacy and to be left alone. I worked hard to buy this house, and I am not moving. I don't bother anyone, and I would just like to be treated as nicely from all concerned - and, by now, that is to just stop.

It was in Burton's realm to stop it, and he knows I am writing the facts, and he will not stop it.

For example, here is something I recently wrote to some key places:

I would like to be proved wrong about Chief Burton. That is another reason that I think the CPD should be investigated. There were so many of us private citizens who considered him an answer to our prayers. He made some really tough decisions, and went against the grain to do that.

There is some thought that he might be politically framed within the department now. If that is true, then the more we push for his resignation, the more that will come out and he will be cleared.

I do know that this "bad neighbor" thing here
was handled very poorly by the police. The officers she called to have me arrested for telling her to leave me alone and in full explanation why, in the most non-violent, peaceful manner I could do after 10 years of her abusive, aggressive behavior - that very same officer made four trips back and forth across our street, and his final trip was to tell her that I did not want involved with her, that I did not want her over here.

She continued in vehicular stalking and aggressive behavior, making certain I heard every word, and slammed the door in front of my bedroom window, and set off her car horn on her carport around 10:00P.M. every night.

Where I feel the police messed up and did not handle this correctly is that they sent an officer out to tell me not to call, when I tried to call them to document her behavior. That is what all the advisers say to do, when you are being stalked and harassed by a bad neighbor. In fact, the last police officer said she could behave like that in my face, in front of my house, and I grew quiet and went to an officer downtown who advised me to just not look her way, do not speak to her, and say that does not exist, and if anyone around participated in it, just to say they did not exist either.

She has deliberately backed out her vehicle to block us when we were on our way to the doctor, and we just looked down and waited for her to finally go. She has made certain that she passes on the street when we go anywhere and she smirks at us. We do not even wave.

I think, if anyone traces my computer or my phone, they might find some interesting facts about exactly how much I have been stalked.

I have cooperated fully with the authorities, where she has not cooperated with the very first officer she called on me almost two years ago, when his final trip across the street was to tell her that I did not want her over here. All the police department had to do was back that officer. I have never been in trouble with the law- not even a parking ticket, and I love all my neighbors - but I don't speak to them, because this woman has a camera on every one and involves the trouble when and where she can. She has been like that every since I've know her.

I think the reason that she called on me that day, and never before is that I listened to her gossip, and tolerated her, and she mistook that for acceptance of her gossip and mean ways. The minute I asked for my privacy from her, and to be left alone in the note (not threatening nor profane), I became her target, viciously.

She has serious issues with honesty.

She claims a Vietnam veteran's benefits as a grieving widow to conintue to draw a government check on him, but has a live-in who has paid off her house and gives her money. She does not pay property tax, because she does not file the complete income in her household. She delights in calling the police, brags about how many cars show up, and then asks personal questions, and if you are polite and answer vaguely, she embellishes and spreads rumors.

I tried to be her neighbor and friend.

I think the gossip about Ken Burton could be ill-founded and I would like to give the police the benefit of the doubt.

They have always been heroes to me. I long to feel that way again. I

I would like their hero status proved.

If Ken Burton is the "man of the hour" as he has proved to be in the past for Columbia, then I would like to see that proved.

I am sick of people like this Hunsley person who does nothing but draw government checks and cause trouble. I am sick of officer who make decisions that hurt innocent people. The first officer out scolded me good when he came in the door, but after four trips across the street, he had a call on both of us. I am not mad at that officer and do not hold a grudge. The person of rank downtown said it was one of the best officers he had, when he advised me that day I went down there to ask what I could do to keep the peace on my street.

From my house out, there is peace. My curb, my yard, my house, my home, my family, my life is dedicated to God. I did that long before I asked this woman to leave me alone, and I stand by my note and that dedication today.

I learned my lesson from trying to be a friend and neighbor to a trouble-making old gossip - who does nothing but lie and act hateful, unless you listen to her and baby her immaturity.

We need an investigation from an outside source though - inside it could get very political and biased, as a lot of things seem to get "rubber-stamped" in internal affairs, including that officer that was fired for the cell incident, being backed up by internal affairs.

If Ken Burton is really our hero, then let it be brought out.

I would like to very much be proved wrong about his being fired. Nothing would made me happier.

I would also like this crap with this bad neighbor keeps poking out to finally end.

She and her little cronies need jail time, and all the time she says she does not do anything wrong.

I am inside my house, and waiting for the thing to go to the good guys.

Up for it? What is journalism and the our elected officials job then - if not to find the truth of any matter?

Have a great day!

And, thank you for letting me exercise my First Amendment rights. Your kindness is appreciated.

Prayerfully,

Federal laws of rights of the individual and the rights of private citizens have been violated. That would make it a federal crime.

Missouri statutes that gurantee the right to be left alone and the right to privacy have been violated. That would make it a civil case and a criminal case.

Three Columbia city ordinances have been violated, and that would make it a civil and criminal case.

All I have done is ask someone to leave me alone after 10 years, and I did it in a peaceful and nonviolent way.

I have remained in my house, and not looked in any direction toward her, and I have not involved anyone around me in it.

The police contributed to this, in that they did not stop it, but enabled it further.

Therefore, when the gossip involves "the next Mrs. Burton" and anyone awakens me from sleep, just because they can, then the chief is involved.

And, I did not involve him. I did not create any of this.

I just want this to stop.

It is criminal, and that is what the police are hired for - to keep the peace.

Anyone else have these problems in this town?

It is my prayer, that when this is investigated, it will never happen again to anyone in this town.

Amen

Anyway, it is not going to make any difference in my life. I agnore thme and stay to the positive. Everyone who knows me, knows I am a positive, happy person.

I do not look in the direaction of the bad neighbor, I do not listen to the gossip any more, and I do not speak to anyone around here, because I do not want to be involved with this, in any way.

I do not have anything to do with the police. I never will again. At one time, I counted many of them as friends and I always held them at hero status.

I owuld not the ones I thought so highly of to be dragged into this meanness of others, and I want no part of it.

I am of the firm opinion that you reap what you sow. Life is not what happens to you, but what you make of it. So, this was a horrible, mean thing to life through. And there were things that went on, that should have been stopped. The law was (and is) borken, but one thing I amn very sure of, if Ken Burton was not involved, then he would have let me know by letter, or a fast call into his office to chew me out, considering how often I have posted the facts in this.

There is something that is just not right in this whole thing, and I think the police owe an explanation as to why this would happen and they will never give it.

They will brush it aside and cover it up - and so I want nothing else to do with them either.

When they sent an officer in here, telling me I could not document her activity with them, then they took away my civil liberties and allowed the dirty little game to continue.

If they were doing their job, they would have stopped that, or they would have least given an explanation that would stand up in court.

I don't expect that to happen.

So the best shot I have at it, is just to ignore thme all and live my life to the fullest - in Christ.

And, so it is part of my story for the rest of my life.

They can never take away my Freedom to Speech, even while they have taken away all my other civil liberties.

That said, I am glad to ber shed of the gossip and trouble that this person has caused here - and I am certain to never call the police - even for a squirrel or cat fight. You don't have to tell me, but once. And, I am through.d

But I will write about it over and over again.

I would like to add that I have gone on with my life. And, I know that some honest officer already has this under control.

Though I will gladly testify in any event to make certain this never happens again in Columbia in order to help in an effort to evict this trouble-making gossip from our street, or to make certain that the police never tell anyone not to call again, while stating that someone can harass by breaking the law, followed by the police putting the harassed perosn under illegal survellience without reading them their rights, or stating to arrest them on false charges just because someone else wants them arrested - yes, I would testify on all that - but I will never reveal the fine officer's identity who really did his job and is taking care of all this, quietly and legally. In fact, I thank God for that person.

May the tribe increase.

I have stopped reading the papers, and stopped watching the news - I do not even want to know when this story hits the air or print. It will, because this does not happen in this country.
I have put in my prayers, I have requested to be left alone, then I have stepped aside.

But it is my story the rest of my life.

For a time, I may let the nice officer decide if it is told fully, or not. But that officer has restored my faith in the police. I know the ones with special agendas may be there, at times, and I know what one person lying to the police can do - but I also know there are heroes - and after what this one honest officer has done, I will hold onto that vision of how I have always known the police to be before this happened with the polic here and this bad neighbor - even as the corrupt officers with special agendas are sorted out.

It is my prayer that the honest one is made Chief, though I cannot reveal who that one is. It is my prayer that this trouble will soon ber gone fom our street forever. I have faith that is one the way. And soon.

I think by now everyone knows what happened to me, and it is a matter of record that I did not do anything but ask someone to leave me alone, and explained why, in a peaceful quiet way that did not involve anyone else - after 10 years of being in the scope of that. The note was addressed to one person, and if anyone read it, they were in the wrong. I would never read a note addressed to anyone else.

And, that note set me apart from that woman. Of that gossip and trouble, I am now forever free.
But the story of how I was treated by CPD, for the nearly two years following, are now a part of my life, as well as what they allowed her to get away with, and told me I could not document by calling them.

In fact, she became "quite the innocent," the minute she knew they were watching me for her.
You will hear "the future Mrs. Burton" on this street ... ask the source of that.

I'm not involved.
