Bill Jones announced that he would not be seeking another term as DA for RR Parish. Any word on who is running? I heard one of the Bethard and J. Jones. Anyone know for sure?

Julie Jones is running. She wrote a letter to the editor in this week's Citizen. Robert Bethard is the other Assistant D.A. along with Julie. No news on his candidacy as yet.

Whatever "personal" issues she has do not concern me if she is capable of performing her job duties as District Attorney, which is a huge undertaking considering the crime in RR Parish. Although I don't find Jones very friendly I understand that she is very bright. How long has she been practicing law?

You don't think personal issues would get in the way? What about his mom's raw sewage way back in the 80's when he ran people down because he didn't think that the sewage problem was a big deal? It was just a major health hazard, but his mom was more important than the health of other taxpayers who lived in that area. |

I think Julie is a very nice person...she always has a smile on her face and is polite when you see her....I think some of you are just jealous that you don't have the ability to apply for this job. She has worked long and hard to get where she is today....she is already trying cases as the ADA so why then not give her the opportunity to do it as the DA? She is a "home grown" girl so to speak and has chose to raise her children here in this parish as well....bottom line she is intelligent, hard working, and I think a valuable asset to Red River Parish! So quit threatening to bring out her "personal issues" as you call them...those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones...I believe that is how the old saying goes is it not?

I don't see anyone defending Bethard against what homey has brought out. Let's be real folks...Julie is a decent person but issues in her home will be brought out in this election like it or not. Issues such as drug abuse (not her own) will cloud the thinking of voters because it is such an issue in our town.

And in this "holier than thou" good Christian town we are not going to allow someone to have sinned and then get on with their life and serve the community, even if it is the sin of their spouse...... oh my, we are a bunch of hypocrits aren't we?

kcs you are right I totally defended Julie and looked right over Mr. Bethard. What a dufus I am...I think he is also a good person and have used him personally for some matters. I find him to be reasonably priced for things too! He had my stuff I needed reafy for me in ONE day!! How many other lawyers have you been to that do that? I think either of them would be a good choice for DA I just know Julie better than him that's all....no harm meant

You brought it out...now explain it. |

So you don't think she would be seeking the position of he didn't think she could do the job? Why is it that she is no longer in his office? By the way, no jealousy here....mud comes out (if it's there) when you seek public office...your life is an open book at that point. |
|
I guess you need to ask Julie that question. I'm sure she would be more than willing to assist you, Sue Ann.
Mud comes out when stupid, nosey people start throwing stones, usually because they are jealous of someone else or their position, or just plain ignorant. If the shoe fits, wear it!!! |

Because I'm feeling generous I'll explain this to you kuntrygal as nicely as I can - When an individual runs for public office they are subjected to public scrutiny. Holding a public office is the equivalent of working for the taxpayers of your parish. Assuming that you are old enough to vote you should know that by now.
If asking questions whether personal or private about a person seeking public office in the parish where I happen to be a registered voter makes me "nosey", "ignorant" or "jealous" then so be it. The only stupid question is the one that is not asked. It is my experience that when a candidate or supporters of a candidate vehemently attack when certain topics are mentioned therein lies guilt. Your statements make you seem not only immature but demonstrate your level of intelligence. You appear to have the thought process of a small child. I hope for Julie's sake that you are not a member of her campaign committee. |
