PIO Pay It Out

Flatwoods, KY

#1 Oct 7, 2017
Just what Ashland taxpayers need, another layer of bureaucracy for officials to hide behind. The PIO in Huntington is basically a campaign manager for the mayor. Not sure about Paducah but can't imagine why they would need this useless expense.

Wait and see ADI, you will be directed to the PIO for "canned" answers and not be able to talk to the overpaid department heads that both the press and public wants to directly speak on their thoughts and decisions. Perhaps we should invest in more intelligent and articulate department heads that can articulate their own thoughts and actions.

Our commissioners are just wrong in this appropriation. It will close ranks behind a spin doctor and reduce honest communication with our paid officials.

This position is the ramification of our Econ. Development guy screwing up PR so badly. The commission is putting someone in for damage control after we had to shut down city social media accounts. Another great job Chris!

Hey Bachelor. Sorry your restaraunt failed. Probably shouldve had better food. And who in their right mind plays movies during dinner. Its called sports. Ya click it on and turn it down. It gives guys something to look at.. Oh, and if dinner and a movie was your theme, there was/is a perfect theatre about 50 ft from your front door. It seats over 100.

Oh wait. You wouldnt know since your mom never pointed it out

Chris is popular with the LGBTP Community.(Let's Get Behind Team Pullem).

I am betting on DD or one of the other forward paying but limited talent BA zombies will get the new cheerleader position.

Not sure what that has to do with Bachelor but I am tired of paying Pullem's lawyer to try to shield him from legitimate criticism.

They are currently interviewing candidates for this position. Soon we will have a new $60,000 a year employee (plus over $20,000 in benefits) to help fabricate and disseminate reasons for water outages (and can later explain why the hotel is failing and we must continue to pay the debt).

I hope the citizens remember the commissioner's cavalier expenditure of our money next election. We have no commissioner that is austere and capable to manage our funds. Popularity doesn't equate to capability.
Just wondering

I think it'a waste of money for this position also. The salary range was 41,000 to 60,000. Plus benefits. When you read something in the paper try to read the whole story and then you can give the correct figures.

Ah, but I didn't read it in the paper. I heard it directly from a person involved in the selection process.

Doesn't really matter,$40,000 + over $20,000 benefits or $60,000 + benefits. The end result is the same, huge waste of money. Ashland keeps trying to be something it is not and never will be. Stick with being a great little town. You aren't a bigger city and it is not a bad thing. Quit trading our money for magic beans.

Huntington's PIO is mostly a campaign person for Mayor William's run at national political office.

Apparently, those who voted in the last election want their taxes spent as fast as possible. Austerity was not the desire of voters. When there are too many questions about expenditures or 29th st, a commissioner will put up a picture of a flower on Facebook and all is forgiven.
For the life of me, I can't figure out what a propaganda minister is for. I guess to flaunt minor successes and downplay any mistakes. It will be fun to see what connected person will get the job. I would bet it will be the be of highly touted "young professionals"

The new PIO will of course need a secretary, an assistant, and a redecorated office if it doesn't suit his or her needs. And of course travel expenses to go somewhere to learn the job.

I would say the mayor, city commission, city manager, and the board of directors of Build Ashland do.

I had to laugh when I found Ms. King, the new PIO in Ashland, was with WT Cox before her recent Red Cross job.

If you look up WT Cox, guess what they do? A library subscription service.

Once again, Ashland requires library ties.

I welcome her to city employment since I can't fault her for applying for a job that didn't need to exist. In for a penny, in for a pension. Thank you taxpayers! In an ideal world our highly paid department heads could speak for themselves without drawing the ire of the ACLU.

Well said and I am in total agreement. Departments have FB and the commissioners and manager post frequently about everything little thing, plus even the newspaper churns out some news. All this because Econ Dev wouldn't update the city website and FB page or botched it. And no one answers phones at the city building. An expensive solution to avoid firing dept heads or requiring adequate work ethic.

I was surprised Marshall Steen voted for this position. He ran as a conservative who would eliminate waste. Where was Amanda Clark at this last meeting?
