It is hard for ms to believe that 'everything is fine' when employees and patients have both been told this several times, then hundreds are laid off, care is compromised and we are overbulled for unneeded procedures.

If you can't trust such a big part of the community you don't mind seeing them sold or out of business.
So you don't mind see several thousand people lost their jobs?? What do you think it would do to this community and surrounding communities?? Ashland would turn into a ghost town. You think that drugs and crime are bad now?? Just wait.

As for unneeded procedures, everyone has to sign a consent form for those things to be performed on them. You have every right to refuse those procedures. Your arm wasn't twisted or guns held to your head. Take charge of your care. Make sure doctors aren't doing needless exams by getting educated about your health. As for the over billing, let's face it, it probably happened BUT, find a hospital or doctors office that hasn't. You won't. Once again, it's up to YOU to get a copy of all your charges and go through them and question everything.

That's bull. The common person off the street should be able to trust their doctor on doing the proper procedures and not doing unnecessary ones. That's why they go to med school, so they know how to treat patients. That's why we go to doctors, come on!! I can't say "no Dr. I don't want that procedure done because I don't think it's necessary". How do I know whether or not it's necessary. I don't have a medical background. You're talking silly. That is why our insurance companies are in the shape they're in today. Doctors try to milk every cent they can out of every patient they can through their insurance. If I'm sick and don't know whats wrong with me and the doctor says you need to have this done then of course I'm going to sign the consent. I figure he knows best. No, we should not have to go through every bill with a fine tooth comb. At KDMC the respiratory therapy department goes into patients rooms twice a day and does a protocol on them to see if they need to have their breathing treatments changed. Bet you didn't know that. That is a hefty charge EVERY day the patient is there. That is FRAUD. And just about every patient that comes in will have breathing treatments ordered at least on as "as needed" basis. Therefore they are charged daily for someone to go ask them if they need a treatment. Now how do you justify that???

I went to the er once and they wanted to do a spinal tap on me....I got scared and said no....the walked out of the room and came back a few min later with papers that said that I was signing out AMA (against medical advice) i did not once say I was leavening I was just scared to have that one test done.... But this was after the had already done blood work, a ct scan and an x-ray....When I said something about it they said that if I did not want to do what the dr wanted me to do then he would not treat me...I then asked for the scrips that he said he was going to write me for some antibiotics and the nurse said that I was signing out AMA and would not get my scrips....I have been back sense then and the care that you get in that er is horrible.....the last time I was in their a woman was brought in with chest pain had a history of MI several that is and the poor thang sat in that room for over 30 min befor anybody came in to see her....and then it was the lab tech....when the lab tech asked if she needed anythang the women said she needed to see a nurse and that her chest was hurting really bad...it's like they don't care anymore about patient care ....

With all this said, you still don't think it's wise to try to educate yourself?? Or ask someone you know that has a health background? Yes, the doctor should know best but ALL doctors everywhere will send you for test after test as long as you let them. Take charge of your healthcare!

Are some of the charges just ridiculous? YES! In the end, don't you go through your cell phone bill, credit card bill, electric bill with a fine tooth comb? If the answer is yes then a hospital bill should be no different.

They would be better off if they would consolidate with another health system. That is part of their problem, they want to be independent and cannot sustain all their construction.

The big event has not happened yet. You employees need to be looking around for jobs and take a job if you find one, get out. I feel sorry for the few that are left in the food service department. When your contract is up, I would guess, you will be gone. Time will tell.

If jobs are getting cut, cut theirs because they don't do anything anyway.

Yes she is, and she tells the patients what they want to hear then kisses up to the staff and talks bad about the patients she was supposed to be trying to help, and ultimately does nothing about the patients problem. Needless to say, patients and staff alike love her. Very funny!!
