Lol thats how unions are crippling our economy. If it weren't for Unions business' would compete for qualified employees (not good ole boy rednecks) and prices would remain low while employees were fairly compensated for their work. That is why companies without Unions make much more profit while still keeping their employees satisfied. Unions work for those in the unions.... but they kill the pockets of the consumer and anyone who wishes to work without contributing to such a corrupt entity
If it weren't for the overpaid workers of unions, you wouldn't be getting the good tips for drugs waiting tables and offering crappy service. Get a life!

Who cares who it was. point is they lost jobs. the paper said csx did but you can't belive them. I just posted what the headline said. so I guess they where csx workers laid off by prsc. point is I bet a month ago you couldn't tell them they would be laid off and them believe it. AK should be concerened about their jobs too. we will all soon have to go to mexico, china, or japan to work. evansville ,in. just lost 100s of jobs that went to mexico. even the illegal mexicans are going back home to work

If AK was to layoff it would be no supprise to anyone especialy the AK worker. Where else can a person go in this town and make 80 grand a year giving their family the best life they possibly can. Unemployment for AK will pay far more than they could make anywhere else except the railroad. Oh and CSX is hiring. Dont take my word for it go to their site www.csx.com they need a conductor in russell. I work at the hospital and admire the pay and hours these men and women get at AK. If they are willing to work they can make my salary in 6 months. Real men and women working a real job deserving every penny they earn.

You, sir, are a moron. Yes, your taxes may wrongly be distrubuted to the pill poppers on welfare, but you can blame a democrat. A democrat YOUR union supported! Not only that, but while Unions may help YOU and those on welfare you support, the average working person or business owner SUFFERS because to support your undeserved wage AK STEEL has to charge rediculous prices for their steel driving up the cost of most products. Higher costs hurt consumers who work for their money. When money isn't being spent as a result of the rediculous prices then other companies aer forced to lay of their workers. If it wasn't for your Union wages and Unions supporting democrats then not only would you not give such a large portion of your check to pill poppers, but other business in the community would thrive.
You union hacks get so upset when a scab comes in and is willing to work for a reasonable wage. Not a rediculously low wage mind you. Not a wage that one could not raise a family on. But a resonalbe wage? You claim unions are american, but you condemn the idea of capitalism. How American is that? Supporting government take overs, corruption, and the redistribution of wealth.

Well its payday where I work and my take home at my non union job biweekly was 500 dollars for 72 hours work cause 40 is a crime. I was making this a week in 96 at my union job. That job left the country thanks to Clintoon and NAFTA. At least the people who work at AK can look their familys in the face. It takes a minimum of 45 thousand a year to afford the basics unless of course your family has money. Gas prices drive the cost of everything up and we now compete with China for Oil because their continued growth based on owning our once good paying industrial jobs. Our country is living on borrowed time and money. The state of our country and economy can be traced back to 94 and the signing of NAFTA. Hope China doesnt collect. We push Democracy world wide to only find ourselves slaves to communists.

Wait for it...if it closes it closes...if it stays open it stays open. Profit sharing check should be coming in the next couple of weeks. Maybe they are going to close after that? HaHa! We don't want the Ching Chong China people making the steal! Ever heard of Toyoto? We screw your car up for cheap cheap!

Seriously people. Quit b!tching about flipping burgers, snorting pills, and name calling. Jesus, grow the hell up. If this is the case our entire community is in danger. It doesn't matter if you're handing out burgers or a cashier at Wal-Mart. The effects of the massive shut-down will cripple our economy. It doesn't matter if you make 18 dollars or 18 cents an hour.
Also please don't forget alot of families depend on AK Steel as a major source of income. Look at the bigger picture here.
I pray this is just a rumor for the sake of my hometown.
I am truly appalled and ashamed at the condition of the area I call home. This post and the responses to it only further my aggravation. We should be helping not bashing. AK falls others will follow...

This country is where it is today, as in owning homes, driving decent vehicles, being able to raise our kids with some dignity, because of our fore-fathers standing together and fighting the rich & elite for our blue-collar rights. Hellooooo...but does any of it really matter anymore? Is there a such thing as unity? Doesn't most of the people only look out for themselves? Isn't it dog eat dog, union or not? Money talks, and most of our jobs walk!!! Helloooooo!! If we don't get our heads out of our butts and get back to God and humanity, we aren't gonna have anything to worry about fighting for!!!! But I guess that's just my opinion. And as far as I'm concerned, I don't give a rats ass if they shut it down or not. Yeah we make good money, but we don't have much of a life. The less you have, the less you have to worry about, and the more time you have with people you care about. Maybe not eatin at the ritz all the time, but working together growing your own food, or sitting on the river bank drowning a worm sure is more of a life than working all the dang time for a company that don't care who you are. I'll stay right here on my farm til they drag me off of it, then I'll figure out something else.

Well my husband has one of the hardest jobs in the plant, oven benchman, and let me assure you he does work. Like any other job there are workers at AK that really do their job and others that do slack off! You will find that at almost any job! These guys work long hours away from their families so they can give them a good life! I think people are just jealous... it is nothing for my husband to gross $1,700 a week.. So for everyone who works at AK keep doing you!
