That is Dr Damron and he is the best! He saved my mother's life and is now treating three family members and they all love him.He basically is the nicest and kindest man I have ever met. Also,he practices only at OLB,which I love.

I have the privilege of working with all of the cardiologists at KDMC. I am fully aware of the negativity that is surrounding the hospital right now, and some of these issues are legitimate, some are not. However, when it comes to your health you need to make the best and informed decisions. The fact is, we have many patients transferred to our facility daily, why? Because we do provide excellent care and the resources we have available to us far exceed those of other hospitals. For instance, if you are admitted with an MI at OLBH, while they are too an excellent hospital and can stabilize you, there is a 99% chance you will be transferred to KD. Why? Because their facility does not offer interventions such as placing stents to blocked arteries. KD does. We are rated in the top 5% in the nation for our cardiac care. If your mother, father, sister, brother, husband, or wife was actively having a heart attack, wouldn't you want them to have ALL resources available to them? We have 16 very experienced and knowledgeable cardiologists that perform procedures daily with us, most of which even practice at OLBH and SOMC, however, even they bring most of their patients to us at KDMC.

I did NOT care for Velury. He is very arrogant. I felt he thought he was too good or busy to bother with me. Cookie cutter medicine is not how it is done correctly. I would ask him a question and he would act like I was stupid. He took me off all my blood pressure meds and put me on blood thinners. You don't change medications like that. I have yet to get my pressure back to an acceptable level. He had me taking Isosorbide mononitrate which gave me severe headaches, cold sweats, tremors and kidney pain. This was from just one pill a day, I was supposed to take two a day. I was told to take it for two weeks to get used to it. I tried to explain what it was doing to me, but, I was just the patient. I seemed to have known more about my medicines than they. I also asked the nurse what she was giving me. Her reply was "I don't know, I just take them out of the package and put them in the little cup". I was finally taken off the meds he prescribed and put back on the ones I was on before I went in. Velury's assistant was rude and belligerent too. After a heart cath, kidney cath and Echocardiogram I feel worse. I was very disappointed with his service, the couple of times I saw him that week. He also wanted me to have a stress test. I told him I had been mowing grass and digging ditches since getting out. I know you do the stress test first then a heart cath if needed, not the reverse. I believe he felt threatened because I asked questions and just didn't go along with what he said, which, I feel could have killed me if I had. I just wanted to know why my blood pressure kept spiking out on me. I did not have a heart attack nor a stroke. I am glad you other people had good results with him. I don't blame my bad experience on the whole hospital. I am sure there are very good people there.

This is a forum on doctors some idiotic kdh employee(rachel)has to write yet another commercial for the hospital! You may think kdh is this wonderful regional cardiac center but in reality it's perception among professionals in the field is that of an unfortunate joke!Your lofty opinions are now shared only within your walls.

And I'm sure, fineone, that you are either a professional in cardiac medicine yourself, or close to so many cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons that you are privvy to all of their opinions of all the regional heart health programs tri-state wide. Right? I mean, why else would you presume to know the opinions of people you have never even spoken to??? That would be just silly!!

Wasn't there a Dr @ KDMC that was arrested for driving under the influence of cocaine and booze? Instead of canning his ass like they should have, they let him design/create their new computer software EPIC,,,,,and now thats its been 2 years and the news has died down, they are gonna let him practice medicine?? Really?!!! Way to go Kings Daughters!!

As a matter of fact, whatever,I am a medical professional. The joke is that when you go to kdh for a hangnail the only way out is through the cath lab.Don't delude yourself that something noble is going on there,it isn't.

In response to fineones comments....first off I am not an idiot. Secondly, if you'd like to abbreviate my hospital, please do it correctly. It is KDMC, not KDH. And third, as a fellow medical professional that apparently cares for your patients as much as I care for mine, certainly you understand that there is one major reason that facilities from Eastern Ky, Southern OH, Western and Southern WVa will transfer their patients to KDMC. I'm sure it's not for any reason than the AWESOME cardiac care that we give. Think about it and don't be an idiot yourself.

Oh dear fineone...I understand that this is a physicians forum, and YOU must be the idiot if you have not understood what I have been saying. I have been trying to explain to everyone that if they are looking for a good cardiologist then they should come to KDMC because apparently physicians at other local facilities either are not capable of handling them or they are not comfortable in their own facilities so they send them to us. By the way, there are 5 cardiologists that are not even "based" at KDMC, but they do the majority of their procedures there. Gotta say something......
