according to the archive for property tax rates from the years. 1999 to 2012 fairview tax rate changed yearly 72 at the highest to 51 at the lowest. Some years it went up and some years it went down. Lately it has crept up from 62 in 2007 to 67 on 2012. the state average for school tax rate is 54 which Fairview is a good bit above. Fairview has been signicantly above surrounding districts

All I was trying to point out was how some people talk big on here but don't have the balls to say it to someone's face. I never said anything about being afraid of the superintendent.
Sure didn't sound that way

Boyd County may be building a new school, but that's still not the kind of school in the best interest for the children. Boyd County's class size is outrageous, the drop-out rate heinous, and the individualized attention offered at smaller schools such as Fairview, Russell, and Raceland is nonexistent.

Let certain politicians wax poetic about the lack of importance of class size, then look at a legitimate statistical analysis; how many well-educated people came from a public school with thousands of students, student:teacher ratios of greater than 50:1, and still experienced great success?

You had better have facts to back this up. The committee will file a civil suit for perjury.

. Teacher ratio in Fairview is more like 17:1 and in the county 16:1. No where in the state is it 50:1. Some if the most well educated and intelligent people in our country have come from public schools. Do some research on the topic. Not saying public schools don't have many issues that need addressing but for the most part the do a good job considering they are educating the masses and not just a select few. Now back to the current educational issue of the 3% utility tax.

Yes let's make a brighter futer for our kids by paying an additional 3% utility tax to our school for out of district kids that pay nothing which in turn takes money out of our children's mouth at home to give to others that don't pay. Sounds like a great idea to me.

Yes you did hit the nail exactly on the head. This is the main part that just doesn't make sense to me, paying more for others that pay nothing.

OUT OF DISTRICT KIDS!! Omg ok we get it. You don't want to pay for out of district kids. Stop beating a dead horse!! I personally do not have a problem with them. It is legal and all schools have them. Raceland has just as many as Fairview. But I hate it that the kids of Westwood are always the ones that get screwed. Most of them have been in the school since Kindergarten and their parents also went to Fairview. First they are losing their starting positions and playing time on their teams and now the chance at a new school. The way I see it we are going to have one way or the other. Either to Fairview or eventually Boyd Co if this tax get voted down. So I will a vote yes for the hometown kids!!! This town could definitely use a nice new school. Show everyone we are more them just a football team!!!!

Thanks Bill Coburn for getting my son to sign your petition. He's just a kid, said he was for the tax, you mislead him in to signing it. I cannot believe you praise God every breath, you have no conscience you lying SOB. When I see you out we will discuss this further.

No it seems you don't get it!!!!! If the kids of Fairview are getting screwed as you say then out of district kids need to pay tuition!!!! If you are that concerned be at the school board meeting and recommend this or tell them YOU are tired of westwood kids getting screwed!!! So this utility tax screws the people of westwood even more!!!!

Your name says it all. I doubt a kid signed it. You have to be at least 18, a registered voter, and voted in most recent presidential election. So many people want to throw out someone's Christianity to destroy it when that has nothing to with this tax levy. So immature.

He's 19 and yes I do still consider him a kid. This isn't about the tax, it's about a one man's misleading statements to my son. When he found out just what he had signed he was upset, which makes me upset. He would not have knowingly signed it if it was made clear what it was. Last I heard christians don't lie to anybody of any age. I'm not a christian, I'm not immature, and I'm not wrong to be a quite upset with the man.

Here's the best solution to the whole issue. The biggest majority of westwood residents don't want the utility tax, according to the petition signatures. If everyone that is for the 3% utility tax wants to, figure for yourselves how much your 3% would be monthly and go ahead and pay it. Don't try to force those who don't want to, or mainly can't afford to, into paying against their will. Problem solved. That's all.

Ashland Paul Blazer and Russell high school buildings are both about the same age has the Fairview High School Bldg. Like Fairview Their districts have newer elementaries, but I don't hear them complaining about needing a new high school bldg. Both the Blazer campus and Russell High school bldg appear to have been maintained well and/or updated. I know Fairview High school is getting ready to have over 2 million dollars of tax payer money put in it. This alone appears to be the solution rather the board likes it or not.

Yet another intelligent fact with someone seeing the whole picture.
