I took my kids to the park tonite and to the 'waterworks'outside the library. And, yes, the man that is the topic of this forum was there. He approached me and began talking to me. I could tell right away that he was suffering from some kind of mental illness and he eventually told me that he suffers from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. I had a very long convo with him while my kids played in the water. He didn't scare me and he didnt do anything to alarm me. He told me his name, but I'm really bad with names and I fail to remember it. He was nice and capable of carrying on a conversation, but his mental illnesses were evident. I felt sorry for him, all alone and homeless. He is originally from Tennessee, 29yrs old and he has gout, hence the wheelchair. I encouraged him to get back on his meds and he said that he was going tomorrow to get them. I told him that the next time I was at the park, I was going to check and see if he had his bottles of medication! When I was leaving, I gave him a hug and told him to keep his head up and get his meds. He sang me and the kids a song before we left- Jesus Loves Me. I think he does need help. Maybe he was nice to me because I treated him like a human being and not a "crazy homeless person". I'd say that it had been a long time that someone showed him some compassion. And I'd say that it had been a long time since he had just had a hug. Please dont be mean to him. Treat him a Jesus would.

He isn't a danger to anyone but himself. He need to be in a personal care home where he can be monitered and forced to take his multiple psych meds for his mental illness.

Look what happened here, one person was nice to him and he was nice back at her !!! A lot of people have been portraying this poor soul as a potentially violent crazy man when the truth is he might be mentally ill. My prior post discussed that these types are frequently branded criminals, and locked up in a prison with real criminals, when they should be in a mental care facility, but aren't because we don't have enough of them. When you do the math, it's a lot cheaper to place someone in a mental hospital than a prison. My fear is that for one reason or another this poor fellow will wind up in prison.
