Okay seriously, I did not ask for anyone's opinion about WIC or KDMC hospital. Do you really think I want someone to say "oh don't go there, something terrible happened" when I am only a few weeks from my due date. My dr is only affiliated with KDMC and beside that its to late to change plans now. So if you had a bad experience with KDMC, please keep it to yourself. This is my first child and I am already scared to death of labor as it is.

I hope they don't do anything to hurt your baby. I wouldn't dare go there. Come out with more problems then you go in with. I would be scared too. I can't believe no one loves you enough to tell you to ONLY see OBs at Cabell and have babies at Cabell! You can go to any hospital you want, you just go. It is never too late. Think of your baby's safety!

I wouldn't take my dog to KDMC to deliver. Cabell is MUCH better. Had all my kids at Cabell, and I work for KDMC.
I have had family members deliver a child at each of those hospitals in the last year. KDMC was on the ball, they let the father stay there, they fed the father, provided the car seat, made the family a part of everything. They worked with the new Mom to help her learn how to breastfeed.

Cabell ran the father out for the epidural, didn't give a car seat, didn't feed the father or provide a bed for him to stay in the room or anything. The new Mom rang and rang for help with breastfeeding, and they never came to help. I was disappointed about Cabell because they have been the go to place for babies for the last 30 years. It was really disappointing.

You are full of crap. My wife just had a baby at Cabell and they were GREAT. They fed me, I had access to all the pop, snacks, and sandwiches I wanted, I had a chair and a bed to sleep in. It was GREAT!

I swear to God, may I be stricken dead if I am lying. I took food to the father two different times while they were there. People can have different experiences you know. Calling me full of crap was rather, well, uncalled for.

AND... if you would bother to check my post history, I have a particular dislike of KDMC, and it rather galled me to say something nice about them.

You can rent breast pumps from their home health dept; they are a little expensive, if you plan on nursing for more than 6mos I'd buy one. Your spouse is welcome in your room the ENTIRE time, whether you deliver naturally or have a c-section. My husband held my hand while they did my epidural. They have basic toiletries, along with basics like diapers and wipes for baby. You can get a clean gown each day, but I took my own PJs for after delivery.
As of last year, my husband was told he could not be in the OR until after the epidural. He came in soon after though.

Right, I haven't even read all 324 of my posts!:) I've posted against KDMC several times, and I don't go to KDMC if I can help it. Labor and Delivery seems different. Of course, the birth was before all the layoffs, so things might have changed after that.

I'm serious though, the experience at Cabell was really sad for the parents. I don't know what the reason was, but they won't have any more babies there.

People like them see the WIC and think your a low life. When, like you said, a household can make quite a bit and still be eligible. And that just shows how bad our economy has gotten. Also, how little they really know.

I would buy my own pump. You can rent them but they are expensive and the one I had seemed old and on it's last leg. Which you don't need any more hassle than necessary as a new momma! PLUS the nurses can help you get accustomed to YOURS!:-) take all the help you can get in the hospital. Let us serious mommas know if we can help more.

This should be a happy time for you. Ignore the rudeness and negativity, you are going to have a horror story from every hospital around. Like they said earlier, I would pack your own stuff. It looked like I was moving in when I had my kids. I found that it was a lot easier mentally to be surrounded by my own things. And the nurses are WONDERFUL. If you need something they are always there smiling and ready to help. Over-all great experience's with all 3 of my kids. You are getting ready to find out the meaning of unconditional love.....you will remember the day you gave birth to your child, and out of everything you will remember that feeling that you get when you hear that first cry. Good luck...I am sure you will do great. You are in great hands in the maternity ward.

Really? Bc last time I checked WIC was a grant and you can make up to like $60k and receive benefits. Most of the time they are begging people to sign up so they don't lose the grant money. WIC is not the same as welfare.
You can't make good money and still get WIC. That's why is called 'public assistance.' My daughter tried and she was making about 35k at the time. She was turned down. This was in 2003. Someone told her that same crap story...that you can make decent money and still qualify. The wic GRANT is paid by the taxpayers, btw.

Four generations of my family have all been born at KDMC with no problems whatsoever. You'll be fine. They still know what they're doing.

In order to receive WIC you have to meet certain criteria. If you have private insurance then they go by your family size and income. I have 4 in the household and we can only make 1600 biweekly. If you have a medical card or foodstamps then you automatically qualify. I think it is sad that you if you make over a certain amount you lose the WIC. It is a great program for families. Even if you have a decent income, when it comes to buying formula it is very expensive and the WIC checks help with that.

no one cares that the tax payers pay for wic. I pay taxes. It don't mean a thing to me. It actually makes me happy when they use that money to feed CHILDREN instead of using it for the govenment funded drug programs or for our country to help people in other countries that are feeding thier CHILDREN. Please grow up and go away. It obviously was good enough for your daughter to try and get on. BTW the rules for applying for and recieving foodstamos, WIC, and medical cards have changed A LOT since 2003, so do your homework before spouting out garbage.

Yeah it has gotten HARDER to get any assistance. If you have worked for a living you can't get it if you need help. It only caters to bottom feeders.

Then apparently no one needs WIC, if no one's signing up for it. It's public assistance.

I never said you asked about WIC. I just enjoy people who want to suck up as much public money as possible and share with others about how "free" it is.

Honestly? Bring your own crap like you're staying at a hotel. Who wants a cheap plastic comb and some crappy generic shampoo from a hospital anyway?
