What about the drug abusing physicians they use to repair the "street junkies"? The only difference is the brand of clothes and the docs can afford their drugs so they aren't robbing the rest of us. No difference in my eyes, they both are junkies.

You know I work at SOMC, and I would never treat anybody mean even if they are withdrawing and trying to have people sneak drugs into them. I follow the law, and I realize the power of addiction. I lost my Brother two years ago to an Opiate addiction and he had been in drug rehab eight times. He who hath no sin cast the first stone, and I don't care if they cast it at me. I see cruel nurses and listen to them talk so awful about patients, and I think to myself just wait till it happens to your Son or Daughter. Then it won't be so fun for them. The problem with so many nurses is that they are miserable in their home lives and they take it to work and want to take it out on the poor and needy. It's sad that if somebody is well known in the area and has a big job title they literally give them better care. Not all nurses do this but the majority do. If this man who started this thread is a real nurse what business is it of him? Too many Nurses think they are really something, but in reality they are just another brick in the wall, and can be replaced at any time by somebody that will work harder than do. More need to be thankful for their jobs and stop judging people. I have nothing to hide, this is what I feel from what I have observed.

I understand. I lost a close friend/ ex to drug addiction when I was younger. Then lost my uncle to it. Now losing my dad to alcoholism. I'd like to believe that there are people in the medical field that view addiction as a mental illness, as it is, in fact, considered now. It is considred a chronic disease of the mind and body. I would like to think that if my dad needed medical help that they would give it to him regardless of his alcohol addiction, and also attemp to treat him for alcoholism as well. I see too many people point fingers at drug addicts. But I hear no complaints about other health problems brought on by lifestyle choices. I said it before and I say it now. What about smokers that get cancer, emphysema, copd, etc? What about obese people and the myriad of health problems that brings? What about people that engage in risky sex and contract hepatitis, and later end up with liver problems? Ther are hundreds of health problems, COSTLY health problems, brought on the patient by lifestyle choices. Again, addiction to pain medication is just a piece of that. Just as someone above posted that we all have to pay for the drug addicts heart surgery, we also pay for other medical services and procedures rendered to the alcoholic, to the obese, the diabetic, the list goes on.... Drug addicts aren't the only people we "pay for". And no, I'm not an addict. Nor did I ever say its ok to be. Everyone should try to live healthily, but when they make poor lifestyle choices and wind up sick, addicted, or needing help, i do believe that medical intervention is necessary. But everyone is going to feel different. I'm only thankful that the way things stand now, everyone has the right to medical treatment regardless of certain people's personal opinion. I've seen plenty of diabetics bring on the condition by eating habits and not exercising and that frustrates me, but they should still be treated. And given the chance to get healthy even if they don't take the opportunity the first second or even the third time around. Not generalizing diabetics. Just comparing and contrasting between certain ailments and health issues brought on my life style. I can't preach that enough. Sorry. Just my personal opinion.

Which is it, olbh or Kdmc? You posted both, unless there is more than one person posting from Illinois. And I doubt that but whatever. Go on and say its coincidence. I don't really care.

Put two and two together and realize that the drug problem has been orchestrated. Doctors were told to push these drugs by big pharma, and that's exactly what they did. The were offered big 'incentives' for doing so too. Follow the money.

If people are prescibed pain-killers, you can bet your butt that they're also prescribed and dependant on some kind of anti-depressant, mind-altering drug, and yes, your Paxil, Prozac, Cymbalta, Remeron, etc, are mind-altering drugs. They make you "feel" like you can cope with reality when in actuality, nothing is different! You're just a complacent fool now.

Nearly everyone is on some kind of drug and most of them are legally prescibed! And now you'll be drug-tested at your doctor's office to make sure you're taking your drugs as prescribed, like a good, drugged-up citizen. Think about it.

Lots and lots of money is made and now millions of people across the US are dependant drug addicts and/or pushers. It's easy money for those who have prescriptions to sell some. Sell some, keep some for personal use.(Sorta like food stamps, sell some, keep some, which has become the norm for most who get them.)

If addicts who've been cut off for whatever reason can't get pain-killers, they'll resort to highly addictive meth, crack or whatever street drug they can get their hands on. It's a vicious cycle.

Anyways, now we have a nation full of dumbed-down, drugged-up morons who have no idea of what's going on in this country or the world, nor do they care. They care about getting high and being entertained. They're totally dependant upon the govt and will do as told. Submit and comply, slaves! What a plan they had. It's working like a charm.

I agree with you. Especially in this tri-state. Before my brother died he was buying pills off the streets. He lived in major cities and he told me the prices of these pain pills compared to Ashland. Now my Mother sent him to eight drug rehabs, and he always ended up on the streets. He said pain pills in larger cities sold for less than five dollars everyday, and he had an endless supply. He pointed out that these same pills cost double and even triple in Ashland because all of these people were getting them from Doctors and insurance and whatever covered it so cheap that dealers were asking whatever they wanted. Now I am at lunch at work, and I have decided to disable my account due to visonaryguruearthchild. I met him at Starbucks and I said some things on here that I probably should not have said, but there is no way I will tolerate the way he talked to me and other men have. I thought Topix was about debating and I have always loved to debate. Then I saw guys "hitting on me" and I started talking to a few. Nobody here ever posts their pictures and they hide behind some foolish screen name and spew hate. I know visonaryguruearthchild's real name but I am better than that to post it. Another man even emailed me a picture of him and his wife and told me he was married and wanted me as the other woman. They were a lovely looking couple and he was handsome, and she was beautiful. I am 23 years old and have dated three guys in my whole life. The man I loved was on drugs and I was in denial until I caught him in the act of doing drugs. People on Topix need to really re-think what they say on here. I have realized I made a big mistake by giving my email out. I had tried Match.com and Christianmingle.com Christianmingle was filthier that Match and I am a devoted believer in Jesus Christ. I am tired of all this bs. If I meet a man fine if I don't I guess I will be lonely. But there is no way I am going to have men write me and say they want to spit in my face and poop on my chest. What is wrong with people. I even had one man act mad that I had not written him quick enough because I was watching my Nephew. I have the names but I will never tell because all it will do is break up homes. I am sorry to get off subject but visonaryguruearthchild crossed the line making fun of my Brothers death. I admit I should not have said things about him like I did, but nothing I said warrented what he said to me. I would have given him another chance because I thought he was super funny, and really cute. He lost me I never lost him.

thank you so much. I am having such a bad, I had to leave work. that visionaryguruearthchild said things about my deceased Brother, and it came out of nowhere. I had been talking to him, and I don't know where this came from? He was so nice to me. He prayed on my weakness and he knew just exactly what to say to make me think this man just might be the right guy I have prayed for. I know who he is. I feel like blasting him and telling his name, but I was raised better than that. So was my Brother. He was in an accident and broke his back. As soon as he was prescribed pain pills it was like every pill was a demon. I was depressed missing him, not because it was Christmas(I miss him everyday). He and I are twins. This visionaryguru guy needs helps. He knew exactly what to say to make me feel better, and then he comes out of nowhere and makes fun of my Brother dying. Why? Why did he make fun of me? I am so hurt I had to leave work because I was sobbing, and I am still crying. I can't believe I fell for a guy in like four days. He just made me feel so much better about things. I hope your Son finds a wonderful woman one day. You tell him it won't be on one of these dating sites because all these people want to have pre-marital sex, Christianmingle.com really shocked me with such perversion. I am so emberassed over this. I told a few friends at work about him, and now I look like an idiot. I can't believe somebody would be so mean? He claims to be a Christian, and he might be, but he is in the Devils Company right now.

Do some Topix research on this man. He has gone by various names, Goblinwang being one of his most recent. He gets off by making fun of the living AND the dead. he must really be a psycho from the things he has posted. And, he has been called out by name, gets really angry and defensive, and denies that it is him. I have suspected for a long time who he is. He probably lied to you about his real name.did he tell you it was M.S.? Physically, I think he is harmless, but you should stay away from him because of his mental issues.

ASHLAND, Ky.- Ashland, Kentucky has a drug problem.- The residents readily admit it.

"It has really snowballed," says concerned citizen, Lynn Trump. "And it's going to take quite a bit to control it now."

But drug addiction is not unique to this charming, sleepy city of 20,000 people in the northeastern corner of Kentucky.

"Ashland is not immune," says Ashland Police Major Mark McDowell. "Neither are neighboring communities immune from this drug issue."

Earlier this week, Ashland Police finished a six-month investigation in which 27 people were indicted for dealing drugs.

The investigation involved surveillance of homes that residents have mentioned to police, followed by several controlled buys by informants.

Keep in mind, this was an investigation by Ashland Police, and concentrated on drug traffickers just within the city of Ashland.

According to residents of surrounding communities, if smaller police departments had the resources to do similar investigations, the results would, sadly, be very similar to the results of Ashland Police's investigation.

"You look outside at 9PM, and people are selling pills across the road," Joanna Holbrook says of her Grayson, KY neighborhood.

Holbrook says the atmosphere in the upper-middle class neighborhoods of Grayson has changed, so much, to the point that her family is selling their home and starting over in another place.

She hopes, this time, she can shield her children from the drug epidemic that is finding its way into communities all over small-town America.

"We're moving to another area that I feel is safer, and less drug-ridden."

The owners of Hand of Hope, a drug treatment center in Ashland, decided a year ago, to expand operations, establishing another treatment center in Ohio, on the northern fringe of Ironton.

Katrina Kerns is the assistant director of the now year-old Community Counseling and Treatment Services Facility.

She says the original plan was to start small, but management soon realized the overwhelming local demand for treatment would not let that happen.

"Opening up in the rural area, we thought well, we'll have 50 clients within the first year," says Ms. Kerns. "We had 50 clients within the first month."

One year after opening, Ms. Kerns says the facility has seen 300 clients.

"I think it says that we're in the middle of an epidemic. There's a really serious problem in our tri-state area with drugs."

Police investigations, coupled with the traffic jams in the parking lots of treatment centers make clear that an epidemic exists.

The solution, say police and counselors, is comprehensive investigations like that of Ashland Police (The department is planning another investigation next year) on one end, and even more expansion of the drug treatment and counseling industry on the other.
