KDMC layoffs

I am a union emploee. I'm not in housekeeping but to the best of my knowledge 10.00 per hour or a little below is the stating wage for most union employees . I have been an employee for over 7 years and make 15.00 per hour. And that with our current wage freeze. This is way off the subject at hand but just wanted to set the record straight. But whatever problems this hospital has, one thing is clear- KDMC is horribly understaffed in most departments. Patient care is bound to suffer. Many are working double shifts and not by choice. Administration sits in their offices and tells us that we are expected to do more gor the same amount of money. They aren't replacing the vacant jobs. Most hospitals operate with 1 president and 1 or 2 VPs. Even our country only has 1 VP. Wake up and smell the coffee

I would love to know what makes a lazy ass "unemployed and proud" nothing qualified to disparage those of us that choose to contribute to society. I see and deal with ignorant, half literate people like you everyday. If you are incapable of holding a job and contributing to society your opinion of medical professionals does not count. I'm betting that as soon as you are admitted to the hospital the first question out of you and your skanky family/friends mouths is if you and everyone in your family can get free food trays sent up and if there are enough of our fancy smancy non skid slippers for everyone, oh and don't forget the free tissues and toiletries that you beg for. LOL Only other bums like you that have no respect for themselves give any bearing to what losers like you say. Ever heard the expression "an empty barrel makes the most noise."

I'm sorry for your health problems, but disparaging health care workers and comparing them to volunteers that give you directions and fetch your drinks is wrong. The nurses that I work with give 110% everytime they clock in and are continually harassed and treated poorly by pts that have not idea of the stress that we are under. I am LOL at your idiocy therefore I listed my name as LOL, why you would claim to be "Unemployed and Proud" if you weren't is beyond me. I know a lot of good hardworking men that are unemployed and let me tell you something, proud is something that they are not. The lazy people that feed off of society like leeches is no joking matter and you or anyone else that wants to make light of it is horrible. Maybe if we could get rid of all of the people using and abusing their free Medical Cards the quality of pt care would improve for those that do need it. I may be a little bitter, but when the first thing that a new mom wants to know before she learns to breastfeed or how to take care of her baby's circumscision is what she needs to do to get more WIC or a welfare check you kinda don't take these bums quite so lightly. Oh and of course she calls her "baby daddy" on a phone nicer than the one you carry, and all of this on mine and every other one of my hardworking collegues dime. I think if welfare pays for more than one pregnancy/delivery per mother she should be sterilized before she leaves the hospital, oh and the druggy mommys should be sterilized first time.

I am so glad to see that there are others out there who see the same crap I do at work! I get so sick of being these scumbag, illiterate, inbred's "maid and waitress", while trying to be a nurse. The things we deal with as nurses, people just wouldn't believe. It's very disheartening to be treated the way we are by some of these ungrateful scums who act like you "owe them something". Well, I want to tell them, I give them something every f*&$ing payday...my tax dollars. And, let me wipe your ass and give you your IV Dilaudid too. It's on me!

Well, I'll assume none of those 30 years of work involved editing a dictionary or even an elementary grammar book. It is sad that the stroke which causes you to continually repeat the sequence "LOL" must have also destroyed your capacity for logical thought. The replies you received were cogent and politely restrained. I would merely point out that the next time you are in the hospital suffering from complications related to your ailment, you just make your wishes known. I'm sure the staff will step aside and allow your treatment to be administered by the little old lady that gives directions at the entrance. Some of us here will be relieved at the outcome.

What is crazy is I love caring for my pts legitimate needs and concerns! I get a kick out of the pts that say the dr told them that I have to take them out to smoke.....LOL.....I told them that if the dr wants them to go out and smoke he is welcome to come take them himself....usually shuts pt up really quick!

This is a prime example why the hospital is in the shape it's in. We're paying $15 an hour for someone to cook or mop the floors!?! That's crazy housekeeping/kitchen should be a minimum wage job....period. There are nurses who don't make much more than $15 an hour and they have people's lives in their hands not mops or spatulas.

gWOW!! Talk about ignorance. Its called UNION! And food service and housekeeping are so much more than your description allows. But still don't see how that is putting the hospital in the shape that its in compared to the astronomical salaries that the 16 figureheads make. Of course I realize that your post was intended to stroke a fire, as is the case many times on Topix. I'm always happy to debate with a mental equal which is why I wont debate with you.

You are an idiot, if you are going to throw around names and numbers at least be up to date. Bob Lucas left a year ago, Mona has been demoted, several other vp's have left as well.

Now what were you saying about debating with a mental equal?

Hey Uniongal..maybe you should have tried for an administrative positon and really made a difference???? A couple years ago an elderly relative was hospitalized for 7 days at KDMC. Never once during that time did housekeeping clean the wash basin; nor were the bed linens changed by KDMC staff. Everyday these "emloyee duties" were perfomed by family members. And this relative was a 24 year KDMC volunteer who refused to cross your picket lines in support of the same people who didn't bother to change her linens or clean the wash basin. So with all your "smarts", go for an administrative position and REALLY make a difference.

I used to work in housekeeping and back then, let's say 10 years ago, we were made to work and keep things up,,now its I'm not doing that or why can't so and so do it, or I'm not breaking down boxes even though I'm running trash today. Well know what back then u would have been fired
